Getting some bass into my aw

Postby AE86less » Thu Aug 16, 2007 12:09 pm

Basically i need to get some bass into the aw11 again.

I was running a rockford 8" sub in a professionally made box w/ a Sony amp (4 ch, pre xplod). This was really nice, it was definately good enough for everyday listening but i think i was feeding it too much power and it has developed a nasty rattle. The death rattle 8)

I have reviewed the finances and i have decided that i can afford about $200, I am quite open to what to get. As far as i am aware i can get a bass tube, try and find a new 8" sub (difficult) or get some boxed 6x9's. I think the 6x9's will be a good option but i want to get some more experienced opinions before going outside my house :P. What does our local expert DEE CEE think?

Remember i don't need volume and the aw cabin is small. And yes i will eventually upgrade the amp.

Image Badass new wheels :)

I have already bought a new HU off a mate, it's a pretty decent pioneer thing, yet to be installed. The sub was basically where the og amp is sitting, i took it out a while ago and just moved the amp there to photograph it.

I think a lot of people would be suprised at how well some 6.5" components go when they have a good amp and a door sealed really well.

I'm talking mid to high end stuff.

Takes up f-all room and sounds really good.

I agree with you there, had some 6.5 alpine type s in my ae85, they really went well, even just off the HU. But i'm looking for something that'll really provide the bass i'm lacking without a sub. Plus (even though it sounds petty) i don't really want to cut up the doorcards.

but if you want bass, 6x9's or components wont do, I'd try and see if you can get a shallow mount sub 2nd hand (as the new pioneer ones are in the 500 range).

The 4"s are really incredible! While they hardly make the car shake they are crisp and clear without being so treble-y they make your ears bleed. I'm so impressed that I'm looking to go the whole hog and go for the SST6.9s in boxes in the back. I just gotta find a showroom and see how the bass is on them. And im running them off a really og sony amp.

Pioneer shallow subs

Postby Rumad » Tue Nov 06, 2007 9:20 pm

Go to repco, from memory i'm sure they were priced around the $250 mark for an 8" last time i checked? Even rapid radio has the 12's for $400 on their website which aint too bad for a sub rated to a 1400w max (think thats around the 400-450wrms for the purists out there)...alot cheaper than the $500 Bugeye mentioned

That and every pioneer i've ever seen/had has cranked and taken a hell of a beating :) They just love it! lol
