build plate/VIN questions

Postby RomanV » Sun Aug 19, 2007 9:25 pm

Just a few questions, in case anyone here knows.

I've had to remove my build plate, and scratched it in doing so. I'm planning on re-riveting it to the firewall, but it's gonna look like its been swapped.
The last thing I want is some c**t digging my brand new paint off my firewall looking for weld marks where my chassis number is stamped on. What's the best thing for me to do from here?

Is the built plate necessary? I mean I'll have a cert plate, and all of the old information on the build plate is redundant.
Seeing as how it's going to have a different engine/gbox/diff/etc.

Seeing as how the chassis number is still there, stamped onto the firewall.
On the LTSA site it says that if the build plate has been removed, then you must get a VIN. Does this mean that if you've got a VIN, you can remove the build plate without any ramifications? Mine is pretty rangy looking! And if you dont have a build plate, how would anyone know that your engine etc isnt what came with the car from factory?

Just stick it back on. You'll probably have a VIN anyway? And if not you have the VIN stamped in the body which will match up to your rego number anyway

Hell, just screw it on

you dont even need the build plate, all it needs is the chassis number which is on the firewall.
