Lowering Superstrut

Postby AE82 FXGT » Sun Aug 19, 2007 3:53 pm

Before you tell me to search, I have and found these:

http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=48233&highlight=lower+superstrut
http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=39654&highlight=lower+superstrut

http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=34576&highlight=lower+superstrut
http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=20152&highlight=lower+superstrut

What I'm after is any feedback on someone who has lowered superstrut suspension (whats the ride like, do the SS components fail more often, if so is it worth the trade off???).

There is some conflicting opinions on if you should lower superstrut or not.
After getting 17s for my car I think it would look better (and hopefully handle better) lowered.

At the moment I'm considering TRD lowering sprigs on the basis that TRD wouldn't just lower for aesthetics (hopefully they still make them, I'm yet to email Revhead).

Does anyone have any new/fresh opinions on superstrut lowering?

Also what compatibility is there between Superstrut models?

ie between ae111, ae101, st202 etc?

I've got a S/S ae101 lowered on TRD springs and it's all good.

Ride isn't too bad, handling is greatly improved.

It had stuffed S/S joints when I bought the car so it got 2 new bottom arms and 4 new factory shocks with new TRD springs.

25,000km later and not a single issue, still feels tight as ever.

As for compatibility, none of those parts interchange.

So no struts, springs, arms, rotors, calipers interchange at all?

Ah..... as above,

I just assumed you were just talking about the S/S components.

Im using Teins in mine, They were rated at 35mm decrease in ride height, sits a little higher in the rear, but not as bad as some 101,s Ive seen using kings. Stiffined the ride up a noticeable amount without being overkill if you know what I mean. It gives the car a sorta sleeker look without looking too low.

I havent done any dogbone joints or lower arms since.

Ive fitted Ae111 dogbone joints in an ae101 before, maybe a differant part number, but they seem to fit no probs :P

Ive put brakes, struts, strut brace, brake lines and sway bars from a non s/s ae101 fx to a non s/s ae111 levin with no dramas. the trd part numbers are the same for ae101 and ae111 coilovers and sway bars.

Though I think the arms or at least the bushings are different between the two.

I have another s/s ae111 levin that has been lowered, handles ok for stock dont know what has been done to lower it, it appears to have stock struts but progressive springs their black so maybe trd. fingers crossed the s/s doesnt pack it in as I have just had to put a nw 02 sensor in it.

Still, I'm thankful for getting my cheaper TGP parts.

Some rrp prices are out there, but most are reasonable from my local dealer (at trade).
