Racing Harnesses

The time has come for me to buy a pair of harnesses for my car.

theres a couple here on trademe:

what im wondering is the difference between the 5 and 6 pt belts.
im guessing the six pt is less likely to damage the family jewls but is there anything else?

these seem to be nice prices for FIA belts but am i missing out on something in purchasing these over an ~$800 set.

Im putting my safety at top priority here as i plan to do some serious driving and would like some opinions on whats best for me and not nessecarily my pocket.

Maybe the information thats posted could be FAQed if it seems appropriate.

those seem like good belts, thats really cheap for fia belts, now its just down to personal choice, i use sparco 3" 6 point just for that real snug feel,

most motor sports state 5 OR 6 point with 2" OR 3" belts is ok, so up to you,
then there is choice between latch or cam lock.
if your a big person then 3" feels ok but for a smaller person 3" belts feel real uncomfortable,
check with the ruling or the motor sport your wanting to do,
if you really want to go all out then id suggest takata harness retail for like $900.

I also run SPARCO 6 point 3inch camlock belts. Not cheap but they just seem like better quality compared to some of those cheaper belts. Put them side by side and you will see what i mean.

A good set of harness pads will also help make the feel more comfortable.

You will really notice the difference after an accident between a 2" and a 3" belt.

You will be able to tell by the size of your bruises.

Of the two go Monza. I've run a set in my Mitsi rally car and have put a second set in my Celica. They are easier to adjust than the Sylvesters and come with all mounting hardware.
The answer is Helmholtz!

I'd echo that sentiment. I've had Monza's and used Silvesters (a lot) too. The Silvester was an absolute son-of-a-b1tch to adjust, and some of their earlier belts the adjusters chew the hell out of the belt.

$250 is what I paid for my Monza's about two years ago, so that is a reasonable price for them. You can get the Silvesters down to $199 occasionally, but as I mentioned, I know where I'd spend my money.
