Spray Painting tips

Postby HZRDIZ » Thu Aug 23, 2007 10:50 am

I'm lookign at getting a lip for my car and thinking about giving spray painting a go myself since its only a small part of the car. Found an air tool on trade me for $30 and i'll go get the paint mixed up (hopefully bunnings can do it???)

Anyway what is the normal procedure for spraying ie: Sand, prime, sand, spray base, sand, spray top, dry the spray gloss???

Any tips? It's just for a lower lip on the front so any botched up job isnt goign to look to terrible :D

Bunnings dont sell car paint - car paint is different from your run of the mill house paint.. there is a place on the corner of church st & grt south road in penrose that will be able to sort it out for you - if you dont want to go to the expense of buying a compressor and an air gun they can put the paint in a spray can for you.

or if you are on the Shore go to car colours in Albany, just round the corner from bunnings. They will do the above @ sell any additional equipment you may need

Car Colour were good for me. The guy explained what he considered the best process for painting, was really helpful. The bits i sprayed looked better than any of the other paint on the ole' 85

Air compressor is all good, make sure you get the mixing right! especially with the clear coat, too much thinners and it runs, to little and it turns out to have the texture of an orange!

Another good place is "colour works"...they on the corner of Grt south rd and Sth eastern highway, they will match the colour of your car perfectly, and put it in a spray can for ya (no need for spray tools and compressors etc)
