Assuming its a Celica? Couple of Titan ones in the states running 6.4s on 2JZs putting out close to 1600hp (may be more now, been a while since I was reading about them)

The old Titan Celica is being run by Jo Signorelli and GAS motorsports in Aussie also 1 of Matt Scrantons other pro import cars is being run by another team in Aus.Finally someone has seen the light and is going to go hard with a 2JZ powered car FINALLY people are seeing the light I mentioned this on the NZPC forums over 18 months ago and got banned it'll be funny when those idiots go and interview RAYGLASS guys as it now looks that a 6 second timeslip is'nt going to be a issue its how deep in the 6s can they go.

In the U.S the 2JZ has been doing these soughts of times for years so really its just no big surprise to finally see one of these cars down here as it had to happen eventually........ :D

doesn't anyone build their own drag cars anymore?? they're all just importing them from the states second hand. venom supra, cars mentioned in this thread, heat treatments are buying a 350z chassis, motor, and body from the states and slapping it together with their name on the side and saying it's theirs. only nz cars that will be left at the pointy end of the drag field will be nyles corona...

i gotta lay off the coffee....

wel heat treatments arent actualy buying a second hand US car like rod has, there getting the chassis, shell etc custom done over there and when its done it will come here to be put together, so technicaly itl be a NZ car just had parts built somewhere else as obviously the US has experience in building 6 second cars, no-one i know of has built a 6 second pro import in NZ so why risk building something here that could fall apart at those kind of speeds just because you want to say 'its a NZ built car blah blah' not to mention the money spent, if you invest big money you want it done right. if its going to be based here and do most of its racing here, its an NZ car.

I agree, why try and re-invent the wheel?

Although there is nothing to say they're not going to see aspects they dont like about the car and feel they can improve.

I believe the reason you ever had any strife was more to do with leaping into other peoples threads and bandying pro-2JZ threads - I think the novelty of raving about how great 2JZs are (everyone knows they are great motors) when its nothing to do with the car a thread is about might be a bit on the nose.

Will be good to see how they go, should be some close racing :)

What! Man, thats a bit of a shame really. Its synonymous with Rayglass. It'd just never be the same. Its not just the cars history, but the history of the car AND the driver!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I'm a little confused at some of these cars... I mean does the stretched out celica look of the fibreglass(?) body make it a celica?

I would have thought it had more in common with a supra. hell, it was ~20 years ago that the Celica was rear wheel drive, or had an engine over 2L, and I'm pretty sure that thats not a zzt23x chassis under there.
