Akaroa Hillclimb Weekend 2007

“The Akaroa Hillclimb Weekend” is 2 seal hillclimbs promoted by the Rallies and Trials Enthusiasts Club (NZ) Incorporated, PO Box 2673, Christchurch. The event will be held under the provisions of the current National Sporting code of Motorsport NZ and any relevant regulations, prescriptions or specifications relating thereto.

The Akaroa hillclimb is round 7 of the interclub series.

Akaroa Hillclimb
October 13th. Summit Road, Akaroa (between Long Bay Road and LeBons Bay Road).

Little River Hillclimb
October 14th. Kinlock Road, Little River.

The Hillclimb Weekend is one of the most fun Hillclimb weekends in Canterbury and one of the few alongside Mt Horrible, Gebbes Pass etc.

Like Ashburton Street Sprints, this event will be televised on Sky.

Please note: All cars must adhere to MSNZ Schedule A, and have a minimum a half cage. (This is due to necessary safety reasons)

Its one of my favourite events of the year, and not only provides an awesome landscape to race on, it is a huge adrenaline rush and is an event you talk about long after it has finished.

Best yet - its open to Clubsport competitors - only a Clubsport license (or higher) required.

See the regs here: http://www.canterburycarclub.co.nz/files/regulations274.doc

(I've linked them off CCC's website until they are posted on RATEC's website)

Entry form should be available soon on http://www.ratec.org.nz

Recon of stages is not prohibited after posting of the regs, however the stages can be viewed here: (Carl Vaughan (last years winner) footage -

Little River - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUQNdoRSg4s&mode=user&search=

If anything - if you aren't competing a good reason to do a road trip / convoy out there and watch some good off-track racing :)
If I say I don't need anyone
I can say these things to you
'Cause I can turn on any one
Just like I turned on you
I've got a tongue like a razor
A sweet switchblade knife
And I can do you favors
But then you'll do whatever I like

I don't have any unfortunatly.. Akaroa Hillclimb has very few places for spectators (ie my mates that were there). The TV guy was there for both days, and footage of both events will be on Speed Week / Speed Machine on Prime and Sky in about 2 and a half weeks :)

i really should have remembered to take my camera (or taken the one Nic was telling me to use)
1st car i watched i saw a big brake lockup, then just as he disappeared out of sight i heard the crash of the car hitting the hill and landing on its side in a ditch... nah it wasnt the Sentra but a little barina
went for a run up the road to see if the guy was ok (while the marshall was running away from the car. wtf?) but he was just climbing out the passengers/top side as i got there

then some more cars drove past and i got sick of it and went back to town

I spotted that little barina in Akaroa the day before the event. Has to be the craziest little Barina out there.

Yeah, Steve (Barina guy) was ok, just got the front end light over part of it, and didn't get the corner in time, hence drove up the cliff and ended on its side. Damage wasn't too bad, but chances of it not having chasis damage is unlikely

For traditions sake, good ol Ross McKay hit the bank too at Akaroa :D

I put some Incar footage of Little River in my Sentra on Youtube - see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd4mQt-XxvI
