Should the Undie 500 continue?

Postby varix » Tue Aug 28, 2007 11:12 am

This is something im curious as to what people think, especially since we have a reasonably large spread of ages on Toyspeed.

Im sure everyone in the South Island knows what this is all about, if you are unsure here is the news article:

Give it another chance, and if the same sort of munters turn up and screw it up, then don't allow it to continue.

Not that I don't think its a cool idea, just a typical case of a few ruining it for the many.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Disperse the riot with rubber bullets & tear gas next time, then arrest the left overs... there wont be any riot after that

Ban it, or give the police free license to get medieval on their collective asses...

The "everything was fine until the police showed up" thing doesnt fly... respect the cops and you wont have a problem... start giving them attitude and you have started digging a hole for yourself...

If it's banned then the Undie 500 will go underground. Be held on a certain weekend and then mission on-Which in turn will most likely lead to more unwanted antics.

heck yes let it continue!
One of the best weekends I have had in a long time.
And the police already do get medievil... Although I do feel for them getting pelted with bottles, that is uncalled for, just doing their job right.

Just scarfies on the piss.

Otago students are supposed to get drunk, burn couches and riot. It's tradition. I'd rather see rugby banned too.

Here here! When I did it we had a Vauxhall Victor with the roof cut off and the rear doors welded shut. It had a roll cage of 2-1/2 inch pipe. Who knows how it got a cert (it was legal). It broke down in Temuka. Scared for our innocence in Temuka at 9pm on a Friday night we bought a Ford Prefect for $200 in the pub to continue. Got there at 4am!

What does this have to do with throwing bottles at the Police? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Keep it going, but fire rubber bullets at anyone throwing bottles. Problem solved.

Hint for anyone looking at doing the undy. Buy a car that has either a roof or a heater. It is a feking looong was to go while drunk and freezing...
