Headunit install in 1990 GT4

Postby ALLTREC_TURB » Wed Aug 29, 2007 6:09 pm

Am just getting around to installing my head unit into my car, only to discover the wiring is a complete mess, it has the super surround sytem in it, I wont be running the factory aplimfier and will be replacing the woofers with 6 x 9 speakers,, so what im after is the colours of the speaker wires i need to hook up and also the Antenna wires aswell ( I hear that theres two that need to be connected) The 3 power wires (GND, 12v and ACC) are hooked up, although im using the power wire to the amp instread of the one that goes to the headunit but i dont think this will matter, I have all the wiring diagrams but I have no idea what color codes correspond with what actual colors

Surely someone must know
Cheers

Yes normally,

But from memory the ones with the external amp have different wiring as there are no speaker wires going to the dash.
Sometimes that wiring is a factory add-in though and is a removeable loom, so you can remove it and end up with the standard toyota wiring plug at the dash,

But from the GT4 I stripped, I dont think thats the case.

And yes the aerial may need two feeds to get it to work same as the MR2 of that era.

system 10 has tri wire junction in the kicks from the amplifier and run caps on the speakers as their passive x-overs.

change wiring or tag some new wiring into the junction or from the amp outputs and power up the headunit.. simple :)

All done now was simple as, just found the wires that DeeCee named for me and it worked sweet, just cant find which are the wires that go to the door woofers and the two behind the panels by the back seats, as those are the ones im really after

for the rears, the wires go into the rear quarter pods behind the grills.

for the doors, you'll have to remove some panelling to get into the kick panels and then trace back from the woofers in the doors to the wiring in the kicks.

or run new wire into the doors to make life easier.
