LINK ecus

If a LINK is tuned for a particular setup (ie - smallport 4age with rx7 turbo), would it be easily setup and tuned on something like a bigport with a T3 turbo?

1) is the smallport vs bigport airflow going to mess things up?

2) or if its tuned for say 150kw atw, will it be fine aslong as whatever turbo/setup etc I'm running is going to be in the 150kw atw range?

3) is it going to matter if the compression ratio between engines is dfferent?

will all/any of the above things require it to be completely retuned? or would it just be a matter of a quick and easy "tweak?"

will need to be retuned. but it shouldn't be too far off fuel wise, if your using the same fuel pressure and injectors. igniton map will have to be looked at as well if compression is diffrent

just tossing up whether its any point in getting a 2nd hand link ecu which has already been tuned. the power range its tuned for is around what I want, but its setup for a slightly different engine as mentioned above.

power range its tuned for, doesnt really mean much. if you were running a diffrent amount of boost, to get the same power. your afr will be wrong.

you may get lucky. but not likely. fine tuning is what takes the time, its not that hard to do a rough tune. and there will be a good chance, thats what your starting with, if you get the 2nd hand one. in saying that, the cruise part of the map shoundnt be too far off.

buy new if your not saving a decent amount. is the 2nd hand one a g3?

I'm with the above, unless your getting a s/hand G3 or it's a later LEM V4/5 at a damn good price(at a steal basically) then I'd buy new. Sure I have the advantage in my case of getting a new one at the right price but I'll be honest with you as I see people trying to cut corners with a s/hand ecu all the time. Add up the cost of the Ecu, plus the cost of a new loom which you'll probably need plus any upgrades/reconfigures if it's an earlier V4/5 which isn't configured for your setup & the majority of the time you'll ned up spending more than the cost of a new ecu. Add to the fact that getting hold of a v4/5 LEM loom new now can at times be difficult as I know it took Link a while to replace the last one we had when I sold it.

IMO, if it's a pre laptop-tuneable Link ecu, they are not worth bothering with, as you spend so much tuning them it's easier to buy a new one.

If it a laptop comaptable V4 or V5, they sell for not far off a new G3 anyway, usually in the $800 mark,
then as said you may need sub board changes and looms etc etc,
buy a new one.

The $500 extra you may spend on a new one will be saved in tuning costs and you end up with a much better driveable car,
and the arse will drop out of the price of the V4/V5 soon anyway,
so for future resale price buy a G3 too.

I would guess every engine is different ... Air filter, exhaust, fuel system, plugs. Any 2nd hand ecu from the same engine would need to be tuned again.
