1972 Toyota Crown

Postby theirlaw » Wed Aug 29, 2007 5:13 pm

Yes, that's right. a 35 year old car. I've recently inherited one, fairly tidy nick for its age, and would just like any info on this car.

It's an auto, 2.6L(?) straight 6, and I've pulled up the wikipedia link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Crown

and this from cars directory

http://www.cars-directory.net/specs/toyota/crown/

any help appreciated :)

cheers, Tim

ingerited? injected? no.

Ok a little more info on it...

2.6L auto, coupe model. This is a car that I have inherited, colour white - completely original. Last lady owner since 1985. The car is registered and warranted, but is in need of some work - it is overheating in quite a short period of time. I suspect maybe a cracked head, but before I start working on it, I wanted to know what parts were available - ie maybe a head and exhaust manifold.

Out of curiosity, at this era, how does this model fit in with what was available at the time?

OR.. as I don't really require the car, just wondering what sort of value it would have as is, or after the above problem is fixed.

Again, any help appreciated.

I was quetioning what you meant by inherited

cracked head/blown headgasket isn't uncommon with 4m engines. I've got a spare lying round in my shed. potentially rooted though.

also, that's chassis code ms75 (coupes are 75, sedan 65)

don't dig the two tone myself. still looks to be a nice example. not worth millions but still worth around what they were new, if it's in epretty good all round condition, to the right buyer. don't seem to move much unless theyre cheap.
mean cars. I'll likely hav emine for years. not too bad on gas. move along reasonably swiftly once they're sorted (hardly fast though) and IMO aren't too bad for comfort and handlgin even compared to modern shit.
parts are getting hard to get, although aussie's a good source.

had a chcukle at the boso comment above. don't lend themselves to bosozoku.

giz an email if you need to know anything.

mild to wild. here's a few examples of some pretty nice ones, IMO

They're awesome cars, pricewise there was one for sale not long ago in Christchurch for $6500 from memory, I think he got that for it too (but then it was tidy, legal, manual and lowered on mint wheels!). Shit if I had the spare money and room I'd make an offer! :)

anyone know where the engine code is on the block for this engine?

before starting work on this head (read: weekend project), I would like to verify that this has not been transplanted into the car.
