what do you do with your oil

Postby solitaire » Fri Aug 31, 2007 4:06 pm

Im getting sick of pouring used oil back into the oil containers... interested to know what people do with their used oil...

i.e. how do you get it into a container for storage

probably obvious to everyone but im keen to know if there are any containers that are designed for the job etc...

As in you just dump it at the back of the house and wait for it to leak into the water table?

Actually try pool cleaning people, they go through a lot of chemicals that are supplied in those cans, which they probably will be happy to dispose of. (Last time about 2 years ago I picked up whole bunch of empty cans on side walk in fornt of pool cleaning company)

Mine ends up on the ground as well.....mainly the garage floor when it randomly decides to pour out of the poor 3SGTE . Or i just sometimes pour it into the garden or leave it sitting around in containers. Infact, the last lot from the primera is still in the oil drain pan, and the GT4s is infact all over the garage floor

I can get hold of 20L containers easily. As many as you want.

The government collections are called haz-mobiles (I used to run them) your local council can tell you when they are likely to be in your area.

There are plenty in auckland... bugger all elsewhere.

alternatively - if you want to know of companies that will take it for you, at a cost obviously - ask me and i'll gve you some names and numbers.

Take it to work and dispose of it properly. I'm against this whole tipping oil down drains, gardens etc

You can take it somewhere for free can't you? Think it was called Salters Oil or something. A few shell stations take it aswell.

I have had it go down the dirt a few times, but it's not intentional. It's a little harder on the island to get rid of, but usualy we find some old s**ter to put it in, or just use it for lubing things.

At work it's easy, full under floor sump (filtered and collected), pretty much any thing can, and will go down there. 8)

That's because CHCH is in the South Island, people care don't care about SI or anything south of the Bombays for that matter.
