Replacing a Crossmember in a CRX...

Postby BlakJak » Sun Sep 02, 2007 10:20 pm

Yeah, I know its a Honda...

A distant relative has a Honda CRX (mid 90s) with a cracked crossmember - rear (bottom of the firewall).
Anyone know much about how hard it is to replace this?
My dad is helping and hasnt done it before - was wondering if theres any little tricks. Commercial quote is for $700 worth of labour - ouch...

So far looks like the power steering is going to need to be bled, and engine mounts need to be discon'd... gear linkages need to be discon'd... exhaust dropped.. ??

Any pointers appreciated, that I can email them up to Dad... (hes in Auckers i'm in Wgtn...)

Cheers
BJ

is it cracked because it hit a bridge at 180. :o

I helped a friend do his once and yeah I think the bastard bits were the shifter linkages, exhaust and steering. And I think only one engine mount to be undone, other than that just the usual easy stuff- just takes a while. We had a hoist as well so it was a hell of a lot easier.

Edit- car hoist not engine hoist if ya wondering :D
