SC14 and intercooling

Postby barryogen » Mon Sep 03, 2007 1:16 pm

Hi there guys, I understand that the SC12, and by extension the SC14 produce a fairly warm air charge, and intercooling them is pretty much a must(although Toyota seem to have skipped it on the 1g-gze), how much to enough???

Assuming that it is providing 7-10psi with the electronic clutch removed(so running 24/7 so to speak), with bypass valve for idle/low load/vacuum driving.

I'm guessing at ~250HP tops, probably closer to 230.

Have you considered a water to air setup? A few have used the Subaru setup with good results & its not that expensive to do either, if you shop around.

One of the issues with the air to air set-up, especially if you go front mount with either the SC12 or 14 is the length of piping required before the TB & possible throttle lag as a result.

Checkout Rick's AE85 thread viewtopic.php?t=44604 for a simple but very effective way to over come possible throttle lag using the water to air set-up

If I was supercharging my car, I'd look at getting an Eaton M45 (I think?) From those new shape minis, apparently they are a world apart from the old toyota ones, and pretty decent for the price.

yeah its the price that makes the toyota ones popular... only a few hundred, where anything else is a few grand....

air to air can be done depending on location, a rwd set up isnt as bad as a fwd
and also TB location plays a part too.
FMIC on a stock fwd 4agze is just silly.

believe it or not, an a2a IC fits better in my application, the w2a are generally too wide to fit, and conveniently, a2a fit just fine.

throttle will be sitting where it is currently, there will be a bypass valve sitting after the SC, and before the TB... have spoken to the tuner about my thoughts/theories and he likes them, and wants to help prove them... all fairly simple things, just required a bit of lateral thinking.

I'll do a full write up once I finish it, either good(working) or bad(not) side of it. :)

Have looked, this is merely a proof of concept build.

The problem with those minis that they don't make much power to start with, so their supercharger will not be future proof.

I've been looking at the M62 and M90... although the 90 seems to be a bit big... I only want a little one at the moment.

FYI: Lotus are using the M62 for the Exige/Elise that runs the 2zzge Toyota/Yamaha engine.
