Next steps... 205 upgrades..

Postby DCEIVD » Tue Sep 04, 2007 10:53 am

So I've spent a little money here and there....
Here is what I am thinking next.

Brake Rotors (I need to replace the fronts)

Exhaust Mid Section (Probably Aussie)

ECU / FMIC / Fuel Pump / Turbo / Manifold (want to do these all at the same time pretty much)

So I've read a bit here and there about the GT series Garrets not working that well with the 3sgte's and some better feed back about MSE turbo's - Any suggestions?

Suggestions for good workshops / fabricators?

Input?

Anything in particular about them not working well?

I would have assumed that would have worked just fine and assuming it is suitably sized, a good upgrade.

Its been a while - I thought that same things, you know so long as it was a suitably matched turbo it should do the job nicely?

Maybe it was more opinion than fact and maybe it was because the person was expecting more? I dont know to be honest.

GT30s work fine with 3S-GTE's, as do GT35s (if your power goals are in excess of 500HP), GT25s & GT28s don't seem to have the capacity to deliver much more than 300HP which is probably where that myth came from.

Who would fit them(25 and 28) thinking that???

Even me, mr "I'm in the infancy of learning about turbos" wouldn't think of putting a GT25 on one... maybe a GT28RS, which I think has flow which indicates ~325-350...

I wouldnt have thought about putting a 25 on, I possibly might have entertained the idea of a 28RS at some point. I mean sure I can just push my CT20 till it goes bang - but thats probably not cool 8O and I'd rather not be sucking bits of turbo through the motor.

Im most likely going to shell out for a motec as far ecu goes. If for no other reason that to say I've got one  hehe :)

A lot of people tried the GT2540 and got bad results. The GT28 is better, but most people get the HP bug and want more than it can deliver, and get disappointed when they find it hard to get over 300HP from them.

A good place to see what a particular turbo will do on a 3S is http://www.mr2ownersclub.com/mr2records/dyno.htm

dcieved - if you want a look at the aussie dump and midpipes before you purchase them your welcome to have a peek at My group A - Im running the dump , midpipe and cat , from aussie , and the HKS silent poweer rear section .. Its working very well , and is quite subtle in note , which is a good thing - doesnt draw as much attention ..

FMIC - well , either frank orour mechanic can put you straight on that - mines also going FMIC soon when budget allows ..

Fuel pump - we all run Walbro's

ECU - PFC is a good thing if you can find one - they are no longer made

Wolf in australia ho did thye management for my last St185 group A have a plug and play harness for their new V500 ECU - I used the previous V400 with very very good effects , and ill most likley go the v500 this time around - price was $1800 AUS but i dunno if that included the adaptor loom ( still researching it )

the stock manifold flows fine until you start looking at stratispheric power levels - stick with that for now , and save your cash for the other upgrades ..

PS what have you done for the handling aspects ??

Cusco underbrace does wonders for these cars in the handling dept - as does the whileline uprated rear swaybar !
