Thats that idea sorted, was just considering parking, facilities, cleaning and parking as well as a level ground for everyone to meet so anyone new didnt have to feel intimidated.

seems like theres two ideas here under the same post...robbed :x .

I reckon a BBQ get together at a house would be sweet as. If everyone brings something to fry up and a couple of drinkies (L&P since ages ago), no one will go short of a sausage. And if we can all afford luxury automobiles such as Toyotas then i'm guessing we can splash out 30 bucks to buy some BBQ frying material.

Organise who brings what so we don't end up with 100 packets of sausages, no bread and warm beer. That would suck.

How bout a cruise before this BBQ? Solitaire mentioned a surf beach. I second that. Unless you cold boost everywhere (or you pretend you're driving a type-r  ) then you shouldn't go through too much gas. The value for money if 250 cars/people turn up = ace

ignore my suggestion, as i said it was only an idea i had been sitting on for far to long and given the opportunity to raise it have done so.

Its not up to me or even silent knight to decide whats best for everyone out there in member land, its mearly 2 suggestions for everyone to consider.

I went somewhere last year for a 21st and i saw a meet and greet for toyspeed falling into a good way via my idea, theres no better or worse about it other than the fact that there could be more carparks avalible, wider and colder choice of drinks on tap and larger facilities should an event manage to sustain the intrest both my self and silent knight would like to see from young and old members.

Cliff, maybe you and me should get together over the weekend somewhere if you're not too busy to discuss some suitable venue/date options and give the greater TS AK populace some choices...?

I have some people coming over for the ruggers on Saturday (Jay/Chris etc probably as well) you and Sarah welcome to join!

Re: The intimidation thing, as long as every is friendly and makes an effort to get to know people i doubt it would be an issue...

Being pretty new to the TS scene....

I think this is a great idea - I'd turn up. I'm a pretty shy chap to begin with so somewhere friendly is always good!!!

Having it at someones place is more convenient from a BBQ point of view too. The ones at One Tree Hill (for example) are hard work at best compared to a decent BBQ.

Ill try come, you need to come so we can catch up etc 8)
I need to see the new beast... first I should get mine back on the road... fingers crossed...

I have to say well done SK for suggesting this type of event, a meet and greet for old n new members of TS, to kick of the summer season.
Those of you who have given him grief over having it at his place, just so he can get pissed and not have to drive home... pull your head in! I don't see you offering your home to strangers for this type of event.

Anyway, back to the task at hand...

Having it at a hall or bar etc would make it a non-cost effective idea. Having a bbq at a beach or park means dragging a bbq out there if they dont already have the facilities. But having it at someones house, who has actually offered it, is a much better and cost effective idea... IMHO.

I would actually like to offer my place as an alternative venue for this event. I don't mind holding it and have the facilities to hold it:

-Large section with plenty of offstreet parking for those who need it.
-Two BBQ's.
-Huge outdoor table for seating 12 people, plus extra chairs etc.
-Indoor smokers lounge with comfy chairs and TV, DVD and Stereo.
-Friendly flatmates who wont mind the entertainment.
-Two Beer Fridges!!! :D
-Easy to find from the southern motorway. (Manurewa). :D

So there you have it. The offer has been made, its up to you guys to decide where you would like to have it.

The other idea I had was to hold a BBQ etc at different venues each month. Like having the first one at SK's, next month at mine, next one at a beach somewhere etc. Just to get a regular meet and greet goin on in the Auckland region. Some people cant make it into town on week nights etc but will proberly be able to make a meet on the weekend. Summers coming up, so why not make the most of the warmer weather by having a BBQ in the sun with a few brews and good company.

Ok, thats my 5 cents. 8)

Hanre great idea, hit me on MSN ill throw you my ideas.

But to sum up my train of thought was

" a bunch of kids throw parties at there flat, a club how ever would use a clubhouse or hall ", Also would provide better facilites for a larger crowed ( as we do want a bigger turnout correct ).

And if the members are keen to hire a security guard, with a $2 donation or somthing to cover costs we will organise it.

Good concept mate. I'm figuring that it would probably cost closer to a couple of hundred dollars per person for venue hire, and another large amount for security.
Lets be honest, if the people that show up tend to be the people who show up for meets, you're not going to anywhere near fill the hall. TS meets are pretty minute, if it was an NZHondas meet then you could probably a large hall, as their club is a lot more active. The Auckland TS scene is nowhere near that active. IMHO opinion would be to either go to SK's or Bad20V's, from there we can look at a larger venue if more people show up. But bear in mind, as soon as you start incurring costs for venues, then less people show up ;)

My suggestion is to have the first meet at either SK's or Bad20V's in October, either Sat the 6th or 13th. All it will take is one of them to say this date, this time at my place, and then its on from there.

October 6th sounds good to me as well as I have that weekend off.
As for venues I agree that it needs to be put on hold and see how many actually show up. No point organising a venue and charging for it only to find that noone shows up.

So my vote is for the "kids" to have a friendly bbq and a few drinks (alcoholic or not) at either SK's or Bad20v's house and see how things go.

Starting up regular things again sounds like a great idea and keeping it central..ish seemed to work well.

I'd definatly like to come, don't really mind where. As long as one of my toyotas is roadworthy i'd been keen on a drive as well, if anyone else feels the urge....

ok, lets just say october 6th as a date because if we keep fluffing around throwing dates back and forward this won't happen til next winter and everyone will complain its too cold (or they have no money).

i'm sure you won't find a date to keep everyone happy but thats why it happens once a month soooooo POP 8O

lets just try it at SK's first and see how it goes.
