Just had a mate ring me up saying about a parking dent he had in town the other night. He rolled backwards (at less than walking pace) into a daihatsu of some description and bent the number plate a little..

Apparently they've rung him up and a claim has been made for it! He was driving a mates car and thus insurance doesnt cover him.

Can anything be done about it?

being a daihatsu they probly have no money to start with and just want a handout :lol:

LOL Yeah he done that but apparently they reckon it was cracked (which is highly sus considering he touched it at like 0.5km/hr lol)

if its a new diahatsu, the part wil be ex japan and silly $$

the thing to remember with modern cars, is that a minor touch can move other things.
so there is the possibility of craked/broken bumper clips and mounts etc.

really depends how much of a touch it was. 1000kg of car at 2 kmh can still have a lot of inertia.

of course it could be jsut a little touch with no damage at all and they are trying a scam!

Its not a new dihautsu, its like an early 90's one (from the look of it) I dont know what they can prove really, all i can see is a bent number plate. no cracks or anything on the bumper itself

Did he talk to them straight away, chances are if he just buggered off they'd be pissed even if it did no damage, similar thing happened to me once. Some silly girl brushed my rear bumper while changing lanes at an intersection. I was angry and wrote down her plate. After seeing there was only a tiny scratch on my car and my car was a POS I didn't bother.

His fault so pay up.

BUT, do you have a trusted panelbeater? If so tell them to take it there for assessment and that you will look after whatever their findings are.
