I bought an ee90 corolla with a 2E carbyd engine 2 years ago.
When you put your foot down it always half stalled but kept driving.
Not long ago I properly sealed up the rocker cover to stop all the oil coming out. Now it wont run very well ova half throttle under load at all rpms. It miss fires or runs short on fuel and I can hear it burning fuel in the exhaust pipe. Nasty bang noises. It still has the same power when its not doing that. It idles fine, starts fine, drives slow fine.
I have replaced the spark plugs, dizzy cap and rottor. They are still fine. Replaced the inline fuel filter in the engine bay as it was very old and full of black paint flake looking things.
Any help would be appreciated as I cant find whats wrong.
Well im not 100% sure what is causing the noise. But i think its that.
I have no idea how my carby works. So many vaccum hoses and wires coming off it. Id get it checked by a mechanic but I dont have the $ and normally I can fix it myself.
i was having problems kinda like this i think if i read corectly...
how old is the fule filter??
mine had a major deaid spot wen the second barrle opend in the carb folowd bu a big backfier then pulled away...
sound kinda fimilier??
i also got new spark plugs at the same time
andyztouring, I spose it would be way out. never checked it. engine is a pos lol.
79rolla, Fuel filter might be the original one from 1990. I bought a new one yesterday. Engine hasnt been looked after. Full of dirt and crap.
It does have a dead spot. big dead spot. then it takes off. I practically drive everywhere with my foot down coz its so slow.
I got new plugs awhile ago but it ddnt do any thing. Dizzy cap was stuffed but that ddnt make it better when i changed it. I ges the timing is way out and the carby is stuffed.
Mr Revhead, Its down draught. filter on top and intake pipes at right angles to it. I replaced the rubber gasket 2 years ago to stop the oil coming out but ddnt work. Then a month ago I sealed it with red gasket goo. I think it still has small leaks in it. My brother sprayed wax and grease remover in the PCV valve. But im sure it still works coz when i take the pipe off the valve it stalls. If its stuffed I can get another one but not sure how to get it out. Has a plastic grommet on the rocker cover.
is that when its warm? pretty high, should probably be more like 8 or 10. might pay to check timing belt is setup correctly, someone might have dialled in all that advance to try and compensate for the cambelt being a tooth out or something.
Definitely worse at 10. I still think its fuel related. Cos its burning fuel in the exhaust pipe when its not running properly.
How can I check the cam belt is not in the correct position? Coz i have to take the valve cover off to take the cam belt cover. Really cant be bothered lol. Maybe my spark plugs are not firing properly.
you could check leads and coil, though it doesnt sound like the leads are a problem. ignition system is pretty basic on these, failing that and cambelt timing being ok i think you are either looking for a second hand carb or off to a carb specialist...
i've heard 2Es give problems with carbs sometimes, though i thought it was related to the choke.
Its probably been the carby since i got it. But its good to replace things that are old as its the only car I have and ill keep it for along time. Has no rust and its only the engine and suspension thats stuffed. Gearbox is very good still. Ill figure out whats wrong. Stupid carbyd engines
Still think you are going down the wrong road, the fuel will get burnt in the engine if the timing is right.Check the basics before replacing everything.
I dnt intend on buying a new carb. Timing is at 10 and its still drives like it did a few days ago at 15, Very badly. Its driveable when driven slow but when it does crap out its very unpredictable. No matter what rpm its at it still wont go properly. Very uncomfortable ride. It used to hit the flat spot when you put ur foot down but ddnt make the bang in the exhaust. Ill probably try find a new PCV valve and replace the cam belt soon any way just coz it needs that done.

No. Ddnt touch that. I have played with it ages ago and I know its stuffs with the timing when disconnected. I put the timing to 17 and it goes better. But its sometimes still does it. Owell, Ill get my brother to look at it. Its probly the old carb dying so ill have to find a second hand one for it.
If any one else has any ideas that could help me out then that would be cool.
I just dnt get why it started when I sealed the rocker cover.
