In-line window washer pumps... or any small 12v water pump..

Postby RedMist » Fri Oct 05, 2007 6:25 pm

I need two inline pumps, one for my window washer and one for the intercooler spray bar. Both are fed off the 25 ltr tank in the rear seat, as such need to be inline. I wonder if anyone knows of a pump capible of doing either or both jobs.

from memory an AE82 corolla has an inline pump and a inline valve which means the same pump does both the front and rear screens.

I'd be interested in how your intercooler spray setup goes - I played around with the same ide on my car and it sprays perfectly but the pump lets water run through it and it tends to drip even thou the pump is off.

Its for a rally car with a 20ltr tank sitting in the rear seat. A constant drip won't affect me much. In fact it may help to drain the tank of water after a rally. I wonder if you could get a solinoid valve to stop the flow?

I'm using the stock washer pump and some ultra fine garden sprayer fittings which cover the intercooler really well. I use my car mainly at Meremere where intercooler sprayers are banned so can't have it dripping and really don't want to have to drain the 10ltr tank in the boot everytime. I've played with one way valves but as you say, a solinoid may be the best idea.

most car which run headlight squirters have inline check valves which require pressure for the water to flow thru, solves the driping problem, also alot of modern cars have a 1 way valve in the hose just before the windscreen squirter nozzles.

If you can mount the tank lower than the nozzle/sprayer it shouldn't siphon the water and drip. drip. drip. drip. drip.

Can you mount the tank in the bumper?.......20L.......might be a looooong tank.

Or have a 'T' after the pump and have a one way valve to let air in the line.....then it can't siphon. Make sure your pump can self prime though.
Down side of this is the pipe will have to refill everytime you turn it on.

without a check valve that means there is a delay between the pump starting and the actual water getting to the desired place because it drains back to the tank.

Do you guys have a vent hole in the lid of your water tank to let pressure out as the interior warms?.

One way valves wont work as they only let water go.... one way. lol. What you want is one of the pressure valve things mentioned above.

I'm amazed that window washer pumps can supply pressure to mist the water enough.
