ae92 front shock options?

Postby gmacrae » Tue Oct 09, 2007 11:37 am

Hi guys. Just wanting to replace the shocks in the front of my ae92 fxgt.

Its got low king springs so i guess the springrates are slightly higher than stock. I just want a really good performance shock/insert. Repco/supercheap dont seem to be able to offer anything better than the basic kyb excell-g or monroe ?relflex?

What's the best way to go here lads?

Cheers

Gene

genuine, or KYB.

if you want a good performance insert... TRD.

I went with a full set of TRD shocks from revvy in my Ae92 Trueno. They're nice. 8) Not too soft, but not too stiff either..

KYB + King kept my race car perfectly competitive in class for three years.

Yeah I bought KYB's for my AW11 (rears are same as AE92 fronts)
Awesome for the price, and to my knowledge TRD ones are manufactured by KYB.

yes but to different specs..... KYB in nz are stock replacement parts.
unless you can manage to get some of their sport ones.... which isnt easy as the importers (stocks) dont do them.

yeah by stating that I was just saying your getting a good quality item.
Heard nothing but trouble from munroes.
They were replaced by my KYBs, the previous said he had them fitted a year or two before i bought it. sticker on the windscreen confirmed this.
They were so $&#$%

KYB AGX (damper adjustable) are piss easy to come by... my suspension guy has quite a lot of options in the AGX available for various makes and models. Was querying them when I was sorting the suspension in the ITR. Which I picked up Koni yellows for less than 1k inclusive of GST. So they're also not overly expensive IMO.

Having used Koni's before I'm an advocate of them, have always been reliable shocks in my experience and the range of damping adjustment on the yellows is pretty decent. I have heard more than one horror story of the adjusters seizing over time and so forth... I guess it's one of those case by case things.

KYB AGX? Stocks supply them, so Repco/Appco can get them, TSV in Palmy also deal with them.

+Street Sprints, many track events on both Manfeild and a Taupo, and all sorts. Not just autocrossing. That car did every event I could enter, and came up with some pretty good results for a relatively underpowered sedan running very cheap suspension :)

Also my Swift did well with KYB + King combo, second in NZ at the Clubsport Nationals.

Just saying you don't need to spend a billion to get a good car to drive, speaking from having done many hundreds of events over the past decade and a bit. Absolutely none of it with any money :) Don't knock "ordinary" KYB shocks, they're damn good value for money.

Don't go gravel rallying on them though!

Um, I call Stocks on a regular basis. They definately stock AGX. In fact I was contemplating using AE86 AGX shocks in the rear of my car, but they're not short enough.
