AE86 LSD, Where do I get one from??

Postby solberg Fan » Wed Oct 10, 2007 11:34 pm

Hey people,

Ive got a KE70 rally car with an ae86 running gear. Changed the diff oil tonight and found a few metal scraps in the oil, Looked through the oil filler hole and found the casing is cracked to buggery. Funny thing the lsd was still working fairly well.... No strange noises, spining both wheels etc

How hard are they to get hold of these days? Can you stil buy them new?
I was to compete in the far north rally this sat but Since scrutneering is this thurs I highly dout ill be going anymore. Damn it to hell!

Thanks

Before you judge someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you judge them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Give Anita Greenland a call re scrutineering (number is in the acceptance of entry), shouldn't be a problem changing to doing scrutineering on Friday night in Paihia.

Hope you get it sorted, I'm looking forward to having a good ol' battle with you at the back of the field on the weekend :D Good luck!
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

A couple more thoughts (after talking to a mate in the club):

* Is it worth finding a standard diff and either running it open or welding it up to turn it into a locker for the weekend? At least that way you will get some skids.
* Is it possible to weld up the casing on your one?

Also, give me a call on my cellphone, there is a guy in the club who crashed his AE85 a couple of weeks ago and might be able to lend you his diff (dunno if it is a LSD or locker) - I'll give you his number.
