GTT Mag Questions

Postby BZG Wagon » Sat Oct 13, 2007 10:07 pm

Looking for mags to put on my GTT - what do I need to know / ask?

From what I gather:
Mag Sizes: 17 x ??? (how wide / narrow can I / should I go)
Stud Pattern: 5 x 100
Offsets: 38 - 50

Will tyre size / profile make any difference to the fitting of the mags?

Do cheaper mag brands have much difference over the more expensive ones (there are some nice looking cheapies on Trademe - but I've never heard of some of the brands).

The car has been lowered.

in my opinion 18's look better - 17's look too small to me

i think mine are 18*7.5.
and i cant for the life of me remember the offset
215/40/18 tires

previously i had 215/35/18's, according to the tire calculators this put my speedo out by a couple more kms. the 40 profile is closer (only out by <0.5kph)
the 40 profile also rides much nicer

I prefer 17" wheels, 18" looks too big and in most cases are too heavy and not good for the handling.

My GTT has 17x8" with 215/45 tyres with no issues, and handles very well... then again that's probably due to the suspension and other goodies more that the lovely lightweight wheels ;)

Hmm, I cant say I thought of 18's...

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll save a bit more then start looking for some new mags.
From what I've seen, its probably worth spending the extra few hundred dollars and getting new mags rather than all the hassle of going second hand.

Hey Fivebob.
What offset are yours, and are you using spacers?

No spacers, I recall them being 38 offset, can't check them until next week though.

Hey 5BOB. How did you go?

And does anybody know the stock offset and width? I gather they are 7" wide stock.
