AW11 over heating

Postby FST4RD » Tue Oct 16, 2007 7:54 pm

Tryied to search nothing that fits....

Started you the AW11 that i'm restoring to let it idle for a while and the temp gauge started raising as I expected then I noticed steam coming out the overflow bottle do dacky. Temp gauge was about 2/5's of the way up. Turned the car off and then went round to the front and the radiator was stone cold.....
Is this normal?
Maybe there's a block somewhere?
Any suggestions?

I'd start to suspect the cooling system needs bleeding, or that the radiator may be blocked.

Hmmm... I'd say theres a blockage. Overflow bottle is on the other side of the thermostat, so wouldn't be that.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Thanks guys, it's been running, i used to drive it round all the time, but then I decided to fix 1 piece of rust and the rest of the story is history  Every so oftern i crank it over to keep the battery and all other bits and pieces going.
Might pull the radiator out just for fun and flush out the system I think.

Anyone know the best way to refill and how much fluid it actually takes? got to get some antifreeze...

Takes around 12 litres. Have a nosey at this link on Club AW on bleeding it. http://www.clubaw.co.nz/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1893. Could also be your thermostat stuck shut.
See ya

the key thing is to remember to open the bleed valves.....
especially the one off the heater tap and radiator.

FIRST.
