Do king Springs take time to settle?

Postby Trls250s » Thu Sep 20, 2007 10:52 am

Let me set the scene.

I brought some Dobi sport springs for a KP Series starlet that usually go in the front, being as these werent captive in the front and made my car (AE85) SUPER LOW, i decided to put them in the back to see how they look.

Not the smartest of ideas, but it doesnt hurt to try. The spring rate was so stiff it would kick on ever corner in the wet (both fun and annoying at times), but going semi fast along aucklands prestine roads would be like offroading.

So i saved a bit of coin and got some Kings for the rear of my car to replace them So they are legal and i hear they are nice. They raised the car atleast an inch or so from where they were sitting on the Dobi's. Now i dont mind the rear being raised but the amount it has raised them is silly.

As you can see there is a bit of a difference. I would like to have the car at the height it was before. But id also like it to be safe and legal (im over paying for tickets)

Ive heard Kings can take a month to settle as much as 20mm? Can anyone confirm this?

Will it be dangerous to cut a coil out of the springs if they are still captive?

OR Should i get them compressed?

Im running different brand springs in the front (but the same spring rate as the kings they sell) but if i ran kings in the front would it distribute more weight around the car and lower the rear, but slightly raise the front?

Any suggestions would be great.

Also anyone know what brand those wheels are? I brought them second hand on the cheap and it would be nice to know what they are? The are RWD offset 0+ 14x7.5" wheels. They also have a simbol on them with three o's in a pyramid shape.

i wudnt ruin cuttin them even if they are stil captive

Ive been driving most of today for work and holy Cr*p do these feel good.

The car sits so level on the road, i think im going to forget about how it looks for now and just accept it handles a lot better now.

Anyone got any ideas about the wheels?

agreed springs should not need to "settle" if they where to settle then that means there loosing tension and could continuously loose,
my trd race springs and ebach have stayed the same over a yeah later,
