Internal gate capablility?

Postby TRD_ZERO » Wed Oct 10, 2007 6:55 pm

Im wanting to know if my internal wastegate for a evo5 tdo5h will handle 20psi runs reliably? I wont be running that all the time just when i feel like turning it up? Im thinking of not going external and want to know what i could do?

not really. you'll probly have issues controlling your pressures accurately. ive seen them ok up to ~17psi on evo's then they start struggling, with lots of spikes. ive seen an evo with a gauge indicated 18psi on a dyno run record spikes of up to 24-25psi. .
best way is to be safe rather than have a big spike and damage a piston or something.

either run less boost or get an external.

My evo managed to hold 20psi fine, but it would drop off to about 17psi at higher rpm. Did runs at torque performance to verify this.

Its easily solved with a after market wastegate actuator. Cheaper than a external and you can get 18psi ones for the td05's.
