If you liked the motorkhana you will love an autocross, Think of it as a racetrack setup between cones, 30-35mins drive from Palmerston North

For you and anyone else that is interested and willing to travel a little:

Sunday October 28th, Grass Autocross, Adkin Ave, Donnelly Park, Levin.

Gather 9:30am for 10:00am start.

Bring $20, Helmet, Overalls (100% cotton or race).

Don't bring rally / offroad / mud and snow tires.

Don't bring silly friends who do skids in the carpark outside

Do bring expectations of fun, and having a car covered in cow poop.

Venue suits all but very low cars, great for beginners.

I must admit I was rather sceptical about the day beforehand (as the information about the day was rather confusing and from several different angles), but it worked out well :)

For the future, how about running with KISS!

Give all information clearly, early and simply.

For this level of event all the requirements need to be out at least a month in advance (in advance of the payment cut off date) and explain in simple terms what's required / what will happen.

On a single page, explain what's on the basic safety check list (I know for my first trackday [back when] I had no idea about these things)

Also what about doing the safety audit the night before, as most people were in Feilding the day before anyhow - and thus givng most people a sleep in

BTW... Thanks to all of those people who helped before, during and after the fact!

Yeah, for sure. Please bear in mind, this was the first event like this I've ever planned/run, so it was a pretty big learning curve for me.
Yes there was a bit of miscommunication leading up to it....Julian is a busy man, so is bloody hard to get hold of...I'm also not the easiest person to get onto (unless you're on here!).
I know if I ever do organise something like this again, there is a heck of alot I could do better....but all in all, the day went pretty bloody well, and I didnt hear anyone complaining there!

Brad to be honest I have been doing track-days like this for about 8 years now and trust me when I first started out scrutineering was non existant and safety was basically your seatbelt and away you go.

Now with regards to the day I for one was sceptical about the format but I think I got 6 runs which was all good. The only thing I would have changed was the timing format with straight fastest lap being the key there as I think people want to no what sought of lap timethey are capable of.Alot of the time with our 1st warm up lap myself and 60 Cuba were waitingfor one another as we like to run fairly close together that is just our choice not everyone's cup of tea but thats what we enjoy bulls out and close contact.

All in all though the day has to be classed as a great success it was well organised and I think the majority had a good day.......

Oky doky... if there is keeness I'll see what dates are free. I'm thinking a Friday if poss, yah? :D

Brad, some 'trackdays' don't come under MSNZ so if the organisor doesn't do a safety check that is up to them and their foolish neck on the line. If a MSNZ event is run and anyone is concerned about such things as the safety of their car the CoC should be spoken to.

The cars that were pulled up still went out on the track with the faults still apparent and no recheck was done to make sure they had actually been sorted. (I asked a couple of questions around this because I'm that sort of girl :P ) The entry form everyone signs has a 'declaration of conformance with Schedule A' with "I acknowledge that where any breach o the safety Schedule is found during a Scrutineering Audit I will be subject to penalties under the National Sporting Code and my signature below indicates my acceptance of this undertaking' ... cool ay! Yes I swallowed an entry form and rule book :P
Ooo the penalties are exciting ... have a look Appendix One Schedule P in the manual... cripes! costs you money.... anyway I'm done... just thought I'd be 'that' person for a change.

It's serious stuff when you're out there running under the umbrella of 'real motorsport' ay... It's great fun

Also my apologies if people came up and talked to me and I was a bit short/distracted - I had a fair bit on my plate  Was really good to meet with a few people and put face to screen names though.

2nd time there in Ep82, first time was doing 1:27's all day with engine overheating, brake fluid exploding over engine bay and yea crap tyres,

This time round i put slotted rotors on front, metal king pads, TRD fluid, whiteline rear sway bar kit, re bushed front swaybar and got some average nankang tyres but yea seemed to make the difference!

My cabbage lap timerz reckon i was doing 1:24 on first lap then didnt get a chance to time otherz

cool, yeah I found grip to be a big problem with road tyres.

My aim now is around 1:26s, hopefully a decent set of semislicks and running full power will get me close to my goal?,..... dunno we'll see how we go.

.....its all fun 8)
