Titties, what is your application? Street use or race?

I doubt anyone, anywhere has drawn more performance from this engine than Toyspeed member RA45 in Melbourne - although his use is pure race.

He has, however, spent many years tuning from the ground up and is a mine of information on this engine.

Send him a pm. Glenn is only too happy to share his knowledge.

Cool, will do.
I've seen his setup on his celica, it's amazing.

My setup is for street, but i wanna do some laps around Puke etc.
Thats why I'm not doing a whole lot to the engine, just the intake/exhaust mods and i'll leave it there. Otherwise it just costs too much money, and i can't really justify it.

Cheers, Mike

thanks for the links
any shops that tunes the Power FC's should have that software, otherwise it would be a nightmare to tune and would end up costing alot of money!

What do they care, they charge by the hour remember, so it would pay to check first

Also the logging function is invaluable for fine tuning, you can only tune a small proportion of the map on a dyno so drivability can suffer if it's only tuned for power.

just talked to one of the guys @ Speedfactor,
i'll prob be taking my car there.
Even though i'm in auckland, it's going to be worth it.
I have a friend that got his Crx done there and it's amazing, 150fwkw.
He quoted me $450-550, dyno and road tuning, but i'll be happy paying around $800 for a decent tune.
Just need my parts to arrive now, then we'll see what happens!!

Cheers, Mike

dont get too excited about a big dyno number, id be more focussed on the improvements they have made via tuning and alterations.
also some tuners will tune to a high power figure but might not be so good at getting it nice to drive on the street etc. theres is a huge amount of annoying habits your car can pick up from a poor road tune.

yeah i totally agree, cruising and partial throttle conditions are going to be paramount, for fuel economy and smoothness.
I'm guessing thats why they road tune them after the dyno tune, to fine tune the cruising and light load conditions, like going up hills in 6th etc...
can't wait to get it tuned!!
i'll put some pics up once i get the extractors on etc, keep everyone up to date.

Cheers, Mike

changed over the airbox today (Thanks Lewy).
power is much more consistant through the rev range, but i couldn't conclusively decide whether or not it was quicker. (Dont say it RomanV!!)
I put my pod filter onto Lewy's car (fully standard altezza) and the problem followed, so i'm happy that it's the intake and there is no thing else wrong.
Even though the AFM housing does have a "channel" for the air over the sensor, i might actually make up some baffles welded in there, just to straighten the airflow and hopefully make it more consistant for when i get the Power FC tuned.
Items got shipped from Japan today ( Gogo Nengun!!!) so should see them in a week or 2.

Cheers, Mike

leave the intake alone. it's carefuly shaped from the factory and the ecu is tuned specifically for it.

if even seen pod filter pipes made up to copy the shape of the factory intake and they still cause the same problem.

unless you're gonna run an aftermarket computer, don't touch it.
meh.....

i'm going to be running an Apexi Power FC, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Ran 2 consistant runs at Meremere today:
15.24 @ 144kph.

I know it's nothing special, but the fact i did 2 runs back to back of exactly the same time gives me a good base figure before i start my tuning.

Bring on the goodies :)

Wow, they real slick looking set of headers man, good build quality!! Your Altezza was the yellow one at drags the other day? Saw it there, we were the rest of team toyota(AE's etc), took the ol' white Hilux towute down the strip for a laugh too.
Speedfactor do a good tune, be interesting to see the difference.
Good to see some other people putting the effort into N/A Beams.

yeah i was at the ABC private day, the drifting over lunch time was cool! (lol @ toyota's showing the turbo boys how to do it)
which car was yours? can't remember seeing the car in your avatar at the drags :)
The Altezza is going in to Mark @ Beyond on monday for the exhaust, 2.5" mandrel bend with 1 reso and 1 twin loop muffler.
should make heaps of power, the exhaust on there at the mo is crushed up at the back, before the rear muffler.
Only problem with those headers is they are still the lowest point in the mid section of the car (as were the standard headers), can't be too good on them. Hopefully they wont crack.

Cheers, Mike

I cant say that I'm looking foward to having front engined RWD drivetrain losses.

My MR2 had 10KW at the wheels more than most altezzas, while using an engine which has 10hp less than the altezza engine.

Now I'll be running an engine with 10hp less, through what is mostly an altezza drivetrain.

edit: Although I suppose that this could be partially explained by the PS pump, aircon belt, etc which all take their slice of the pie from an altezza... Which wont be an issue for me. And the heavy flywheel/driveshaft/17" wheels/big discs/etc on the altezza probably dont help.

P.S. I WISH that the extractors were the lowest part on my car.. The sump is the lowest part on mine :o
