Control in a GT-T Tiptronic

Postby AE86less » Thu Oct 25, 2007 11:09 am

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, i tried a few searches on the forum and on google.. maybe we're just dumb

My dad and I went to look at a tiptronic GT-T caldina today ('97 i think). After driving a tiptronic Mercedes camper van a few years back we expected the gear shift to be tap the stick up and down when it's in manual mode to switch gears. This obviously wasn't the case, we found the down buttons on the steering wheel but couldn't find any sort of device to switch up. It seemed incredible to me that if you wanted to drive the car like a manual that you couldn't change up?

Otherwise we loved the car, but we were really quite baffled by the "tiptronic"...

Not on the back of the steering wheel were they? I seem to recall seeing a similar setup on a GS300, no manual mode on the shifter just down buttons on the front of the wheel, up buttons on the back.

:x Didn't even think of the back of the wheel...

I was in the passengers seat so i couldn't have seen them, but i didn't think of it...

Can anyone confirm that that's it?

if the auto box ratios are the same from gt to gtt then changing into 2nd at 100km isnt too big a deal. i use it for overtaking in our gt as it lets you get out to 120km at ~7500rpm. perfect for a quick overtake.

True. 5th to 2nd in an MR2 is possible but it's helluva uncomfortable when your not expecting it!
