When you consider that an Exige is ~900Kg and a Veyron in ~2tonne with a driver, it handles pretty damn well!

Of course, all the computer controlled trickery will never make up for the fact that its a heavy as car when you're wanting to go round a corner, but it still manages to do well with its weight taken into consideration.

The new GT-R is around the 1700kg mark, a bit higher I believe.

When you take into account that it gets up to the 290kph mark on the final long-ass straight on the Nurburgring, and that the Veyron would slaughter it there, and it STILL beats it by 2 seconds, it just shows how phenominal a car thats only a bit lighter, but with around half the power and less than half the torque really is!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Zitchu wrote:Why is everyone comparing it to the Veyron? In all honesty its really not THAT good a car i mean all it can do is go like sh*t down a straight bit of road. Ive seen a vid somewhere of a Lotus Exige keeping up with one on a track :?
The GTR looks alright i spose but i still think its lacking what the others had ie made to go quick and not a as 'tuner' as such.

and iv seen a vid of a veyron shattering the record at an english hil climb....

drivers can make a big difference

comparing a veyron to a gtr is just stupid.

comparing a veyron to any car is stupid.....................

Its got 16 radiators, and takes 5million pounds to biuld yet they sell it for less, so Buggatti (or VW I think owns them) make a loss with each Veyron made, its is just there to prove what can be done with modern engineering

10 radiators :)

3 of which are actually intercoolers.

But its not being compared in price, or radiators or how many turbo's its got etc. It's being compared on a performance level.

Being that its 2 seconds difference between it and the GT-R at the 'Ring, I'd say that makes them very comparible.

I'm thinking bang for your buck against all these other Supercars the GTR is a performance bargain but I do believe that its target market is the Porsche GT2 and Ferrari 430 Scuderia type people. It can't match up with the Zonda F Enzo and Lambo's Lmp 640 but its not far off though so it slides in nicely just below the real Supercars.

I think the new GTR is nothing unexpected as you always knew it was going to be a great car and also apparently theres going to be a V-Spec model and Nismo are going to build a variant as well so these models will be interesting.

i dont.
have buggati done what nissan did and tried for the fastest possible lap?
anyone know what special prep the gtr got to do that time? how many laps it took?
nissan are a car company.... i guarantee there was some help for it

thats not to say its not awesome performance

its still silly to compare to a veyron.... totally different machines.

i don't even reckon the next supra clone with the rumoured v10 engine will be much of an out and out sports car . i have a feeling that'll be more of a fast GT car. which pretty much leaves the gtr as possibly the last true high performance car to come out of japan.
after that everything will have electric motors, have 6000 torques, do 0-100 in 2.5sec and top out at 130mph.

For me the GTR has never been a great looker a bit drab even but looks are not always the thing when you buy a car like this it has always had great all round performance and I think thats the kicker.Does anyone have a guesstimate for price in NZ???I hear in Japan its about 90 K NZD but to buy one new here I would expect 120 plus maybe even a little more.

never, although it did do a good impression at times. point was it doesnt look like anything to come out of japan anytime soon will be as focussed a sports car as the gtr.

in regards to pricing, my theory is take a look at the nearest competitor above it and the japanese domestic price and cut it down the middle. itll have to be significantly less than the nearest porsche or audi rival, and at least 20k over the japanese pricing i think.

The NZ new R34 was $130K odd, considering the dollar has strengthened in the years since...that sounds like a ballpark price, if not lower.

Evo 10 is slightly cheaper than the car it's replaced, would be nice to see that trend continue with other popular performance cars

The front and rear transaxels seems like an interesting take on it, can anyone explain how gear changes are don in something like that, as my knowledge of how transaxels, let alone having two of them would work.

images and fuzzy text here.

As I understand it, a transaxel is a gearbox/axel in one, so does that mean that it has two gearboxes? if it ever shat itself I'd imagine the bill would be large.

someone posted a link to some cutaway pictures earlier in the thread.

dont think it has two gearboxes, just a driveshaft from engine in the front to box in the rear (tricky to do as the crank turns alot faster than the wheels) like those horrible crossfire things, then a second driveshaft back to the front of the car to drive the front wheels.

interesting idea, i guess they figured the weight distribution change was worth it.
