Or to be daring or different.
If you have a steering wheel with a large face (large horn cover).
Assuming you don't have airbags, cut a hole in the horn cover and mount the gauge there.

Quick photoshop job of what i mean:

I mounted my boost gauge on the steering column surround in my SW20.

On my mates AE92 I mounted his boost gauge on the left hand side of the steering coloum, not on the coloum itself but on the piece beside it, you can see straight through the steering wheel to see it and it's right above your leg. I'll take a photo, then you can mount the other gauges on the pillar. Plus having the gauge down there means you can't really see it from the outside which is good!!

Nothing looks cooler than replacing the circular a/c vents with gauges in an ae86.

i think its because it may become lose and hit your noggin when you crash. also blocks a good portion of your view. and its right in your face at night and could cause problems also

Yea was told that they can fail you because it blocks some of your view.
But one down the bottom of the pillar should be fine
