Air compressor

hi everyone. was just looking on trademe at air compressors as i was thinking of buying one so i could paint my car.. was just wondering if this one would be alrite for the job??

Also wat about the ones you can get from repco or supacheap?? are they anygood for painting your car??\

imo that would be fine. Ive painted with a smaller one than that.
repco/supercheap ones are ok/fine, the small ones lag behind so you can only do a pannel at a time well. Make sure you get a water trap if whatever you choose does not have one & go for a smaller diameter hose as apposed to the fat arse ones sold for less.

I work for repco, Get something like a CM13 which off the top of my head is about $700 retail. They should be able to give you a good cash discount and it should be ok for painting a car... However you couldn't go past the WS16 which is 15cfm 70l tank and 3hp... About $1800 though

find out what the quoted 'free air' is. displacement only indicates pump size.E.G. i spent $1500 on a Ingersoll-Rand BD15 (15CFM), but has only 12cfm 'free air', and anyless and you may as well take mouthfulls of paint and sneeze it onto the car

haha yeh, also what does the water trap do?

traps water.
reduces the amount of water that enters the flexible pressure line.
if painting ir using air tools, id recommend getting a decent one fitted as the OEM ones on cheap compressors are usually quite crappy.

my flat mate brought a 40l 2.5 hp one from super cheap and a decent airline and we painted a car with that it worked fine as long as you stop ever now and then to let the compressor recharge.

also just a note that you prob don't want to use a air line thats been used for air tools such as rattle guns etc because it may have oil in it which will lead to oil in your paint. not good

40l and 2.5hp counts for nothing with air, it the amount of free air that counts. the heat generated from constant operation, the more water is created, that is the very reason you need a big pump.

im aware that its the free air that counts i was describing the compressor and explaining that it worked fine to paint a car because "trdtrueno" asked if the super cheap ones would do the job.

tank size does matter because if you have a small tank then the pump will be running more creating more heat and moisture also the bigger the pump the quicker it regains pressure and again less running and heat.
