Plates - Ummm ok then ?

Postby MrOizo » Fri Nov 02, 2007 10:29 am

I have enquired in upgrading a plate for my parents for christmas as they currently have a standard personalised on on their vehicle.

To add text at the top and bottom it is going to cost $279!! 8O 8O 8O 8O

I was just wondering how they can justify charging that much. To have a personalised one re-made it only costs $25. making it bigger by approx 30% for $279 with some text is crazy!

Yeah - i remember when i got my one only about 4 years ago, its was around the $500 mark.

I guess its ok charging that much because they 'donate some of the prfits to some charities'

Might have to look for something else to get now :P

I asked the woman who quoted me where the cost comes from... no reply yet and you know what these plate sales people are like - they hound you worse than the loan sharks in skycity!

the best way to buy plates these days is to try and find something cool on trademe.

We got the plate "[ PIE ]" for $250, for my rx7 :D
pie happens to be my nickname amongst my group of friends :D :D

They can justify charging that much because some people are stupid (or affluent) enough to pay that much

if you care as much about giving gifts as I do... not a lot... then you could get them a crappy plastic plate surround with a custom message... I think plates do them too.

or have I completely missed what you wanted to do for them?

I enquired about a plate the other week- I was really keen. I talked to someone on the phone and we had settled on a message plate that said luv 2 along the top and FAPFAP as the plate.

She then told me the price and I said "Nah truck that I'll just stay home and fap at home without the world knowing from my plate." At that stage I think she got what fap meant but still- the cost is rediculous. I believe In a sense you are just purchasing intellectual property and its just not worth it.

I paid $510 for my personalised plate 2JZGTE about 2 years ago I think cost has got to do with how many letters you use.

If you have 1 letter or 6, price is the same. If you get red, its more, if yo get euro style, its more. FCUK its expensive to get plates these days. My first plate cost me about $380 from memory, NEW< from Plates them selves. My plates for my truck cost a lot less, trademe wonders! ;-)
