Postby Santa'sBoostinSleigh » Wed Nov 14, 2007 3:35 pm

does anyone have a link to see spec diferences between the different model Surf's?
or have any advice on looking at them

i tried auto.vl.ru and they have nothing

still trying to make up my mind on a caldina replacement that can tow the racecar!

Otherwise wicked machines. Hope that helps

theres no way i would buy a non-turbo diseasel - would be waaaaaay too gutless

from what ive heard the 3L petrol ones eat petrol - but noone has actually told me a figure (cause some people seem to think 10km/L is eating petrol)
contemplated a 1uz conversion, but would have to find the right base to start with for the right price
was then told that the v8 would probably use even more gas
this isnt a huge concern as the caldina isnt the most economical thing in the world either
so as long as performance somehow meets economy on the graph then we are fine (economy goes up, performance goes down)

Buy one with a 1kz dont mess around, the 2lt 2.4 turbo are just to unreliable with kms cracked heads etc, unless you want to mess around with intercoolers to make it more reliable

Never driven one but susposdly the 2.4s are gutless as anyway

Im also in the market for a surf and ive decided im going to get a 1kz powered one, much more power and reliability and most proberly economy aswell

My fathers got a 1kz hiace and it goes like stink people look at you funny when you pass them in a work van

The v6 ones are horrible, infact most surfs are pretty bad.

The 2.4L aren't really that bad, but they have to be looked after, like any thing really. The 1KZ's are awsome engines, but you do pay for it.

Also, in the whole year that I've been at toyota I haven't seen 1 cracked head on a 2.4.

What they hell, get a transit campervan, lol.

We use my parents one to tow the car any decent distance.

It's 2.7 turbo diesil, and even loaded with people gear tools and the race car on the back, will drag off dad's 3.0 non turbo hilux when it's empty, lol

I agree with the comment above of

1KZTE or bust.

they are dearer, but that is for a very good reason,
they are way better.

buy a V6 surf auto.
with a dead V6
WILL BE CHEAP

replace the V6 with V8.

OR

the kzn130 or kzn185

the 2.4 turbos are gutless as hell. slower than my 4k 8O

same engine but later version, has a few differences from the kzn130
kzn185 has the same drivetrain.
prado is a bit better for interior room.
also seem to be a but tougher than surfs

You should be able to find a petrol for $15 or less

Sold 2 diesels last week, 5 and 7 seater, $15k & $18k respectively. The cheaper one had 145km on it though...

Both were '96s from memory but I could be wrong...

Only problem with prados is that you pay for the badge a lot of times, they sell like hotcakes whenever we can get our hands on them.

there you go... all the info you need and spec of cars...
http://www.cars-directory.net/specs/toyota/hilux_surf/

I like my LN130 Surf.... bought it real cheap with run bearing motor (2.4 turbo diesel)and replace with a 2JZ. (cheaper replacement than a getting another diesel motor) get around 400+km~450km per tank of petrol. No real different when it fully loaded or empty... still get the same K's.
And that thing ain't slow.. i got 4 peoples plus stuff in boot..... and it keep up with my mate SW20 turbo with usual mod + even snorkel. I can't pass... just right behind him... and he was as surprise as me.
