Xbox 360, Wii or PS3

Postby HZRDIZ » Wed Nov 14, 2007 8:06 pm

With the next generation of gaming now released what console do you have, want to get or prefer?

I'm in the process of trading in the PS2 and thought I had decided on the Xbox 360 but the line up on PS3 looks pretty good at the moment.

Each console has their own things going for them.

For example - i would get a Wii just for the sole reason of the new Zelda and the new PS3 for Ratchet and clank. However Xbox 360 has a great line up of games already and with word on the street that developers are pulling away from the PS3 platform, Xbox looks liek the gaming future and I'm seeing the light!!!

360 has an really good established online community and their games are 2nd and 3rd generation in now meaning the developers have had more time with them and the games are really polished.

ps3 is cool but there just isnt the selection of game available. you're spoilt for choice on 360, especially if you're into FPS.

360 is also easily upgradable, from 20gb to 120gb HD, from standard to HD DVD player etc. the only thing you cant upgrade to is the HDMI output, but that is available new on the 360 elite system that comes with top spec everything.

who buys a console to watch dvd's anyway? i have a dvd player for that, and when blueray become more popular ill buy a blu-ray player when they get cheap.

I had the Wii since the NZ launch date, and also one of the first to have a Cyclowiz mod chip (all done by myself too), and god it was a stupid waste of money. There's only 1 good game out so far and that's Super Mario Galaxy, others are yawn, like Ninjabread man WTF is that crap, Sonic was marginally ok and so's Smash of the titans.

Console $499
Nunchuck + wiimote $149
Cyclowiz like $80

That's almost Xboxen360 monies.

Consoles are a waste of time, get a 360 if you have to.

consoles are for people who hate pcs

PC's are obsolete by the time you get them home from the store. at least with a console the developers have to make the game to the consoles limitations, unlike PC you have to make your hardware good enough for the game.

PS3 ftw!!!!! sure there isn't as many games out yet, but a LOT are set for release in the next year. PS3 is worth it's weight on gold just to play Resistance: Fall of Man and all the future Gran Turismo titles. I have had plenty of time playing all 3 and the PS3 is the superior.

Plus 360's are guaranteed to break down

thats a good thing is it?

I'd rather have hardware manufacturers playing catch up to meet game requirements, than have no chance of getting better technology into a console.

the obsolete call isn't 100% true, well no more so than buying a 2007 car, getting it home and saying its 'obsolete'

PCs do cost more tho if you want to keep up with the latest technology, but any half decent PC will play games better quality than a console can.

Dreamcast FTW! Bought it for $100 and have clocked up like 30 hours on Marvel Vs Capcom 2! Not to mention the other games
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

360... best value for $ hands down.
Wii is fun, but ultimately gets boring.

PS3 doesnt have a big enough games library yet and still too costly.

Got bored of it in less than 10hrs, even with a fresh supply of games as fast as they can release them.

Get a 360 imo.

I played GT5 Prologue, got fake handling? All cars understeer and will fishtail into a violent spin if provoked. Wow, what are they doing, running a script off 1 of the 7 cell processors while the 6 are sleeping?

Graphics are HD but god, put some effects on will ya? There's so little background detail, they focused on the cars itself too much.

Fair enough comment - but IMO, PCs are for work, emailing, internet etc etc.

When i want to play games, i want to be able to sit down infront of my TV, put a disc into the console, have a proper control, and just play and enjoy what i'm playing.

Problem with PCs is, as it was mentioned before, they outdate themselves way to quickly and you end up spending waaaaay more than you would just purchasing a console. Everything is in just one neat and tidy package.

Yup - think i've decided on the 360 - just went into Gamesman and 360 has a way betetr line up of games that i would buy straight off and it is cheaper...

I own a 360 because they're cheaper than a PS3, and currently has a selection of games that I like.

I will almost certainly buy a PS3 when GT5 is released, assuming it remains a PS3 exclusive title, as I am a GT junkie from way back.

Proper control, you mean that retarder joystick thingy?
I will tell you where Consoles fail:
FPS
RTS
RPG (but I don't play these, they are gay).
Expansions/mods/community work
Low resolution

There is an up side of PC out dating itself quickly - you get much better graphics and general innovation. I have seen PS3/Xbox360 games, they are just plain ugly. Especially those that have been ported to PC, camera control is usually screwed up (to accommodate that lousy control that is very frustrating to use).

At the end of the day i guess it's all about how you view your gaming.

I liek having a dedicated console that will play games only and i have my laptop for email etc etc.

I don;t take my gaming to seriously though and TBH, I don;t care if the graphics are slightly worse. I did recently upgrade to an LCD tv and notice the difference with my PS2, hence the upgrade to something with better graphics, but thats all i need.

Sergei, you obviously take your gaming seriously. What ever floats your boat i guess. There is just something abotu a keyboard i don't like. Everyone to themselves though :D

Mouse - this is the ultimate control for shooters and strategy games, hell I even like it in space simulators (like X3). Joysticks just fail at whole point and click (or drag and right click in case of strategies).

Problem with PC gaming is that in order to match the consoles in graphical and computing ability, you need to spend about thrice the price.

But with consoles you still need PC for other things.
And need TV.
When you have good PC - there is no need for TV or DVD player or console.
