Postby gasman » Fri Nov 16, 2007 9:31 am

i ripped out my engine and gearbox yesterday and looking down where the drive shafts go i dont see the usual bar that one would expect to see with an e58 box from a gtz levin. instead i see this,

i know its an lsd because i dont get single spinner action when im accelerating quite quickly or in the wet

if that hole is about 6-8mm it will be an aftermarket one, most likely plate lsd. mine and bazz's are trd units, with same size hole, possibly a kaaz, or even cusco. a non lsd will have about a 20mm hole,. and a viscous one will have a hex bar

this is in referance to "E" series boxes only

how hard is it to pull apart a box? does it just come apart once you have undone the bolts?

wouldnt bother pulling it apart unless you want to recon it, Or know what your doing... Also all the ones I have seen dont have any names or anything stamped on them... Its a matter of identifying the housing.

Also with the E series wont the axels tell you if its a stock or aftermarket lsd since the lsd axels differ?

This is a Kaaz in a C series

no, unless it originally had a viscous lsd. i'm using my non-lsd shafts with my trd lsd. the viscous input shaft is slight longer on the umm, passenger side i think, to drive it

does it clunk and groan on tight turns?

does it skip a wheel on tight turns?

both are good signs of a mechanical lsd.
