An ST185 belt question

Postby touge rolla » Fri Nov 23, 2007 9:29 pm

A friend of mine is getting to the point where the Air Con has to go.
The question is, seeing as the AC shares the belt with the Alternator is some modification required to the position of the alternator. Or is there enough adjustment left in the tensioner and a smaller belt is all that he needs????

(and on a side note he just had an exhaust done and omfg can't believe how restrictive the standard exhaust was, it's actually fast now!!)

Sorry i don't think you understood my question. is a smaller belt all he's gonna need or is there something else? say a bigger wheel on the tensioner?

A smaller belt and have the belt go over the tensioner instead of under is what I did. Probably should get a "v" grove pully as well. But I have had no issues.

How did you maintain tension on the belt? Tensioners dont work in reverse, you tend to bend the tensioning bolt and loose belt tension.
The answer is Helmholtz!

replace tensioner bolt with the one that is designed to work in other way.

When I did it I also took out the useless pump and cut a piece of tube to give the strength needed for the tensioner.

When you get the belt take out the bottom bolt of the alternator and loosen the top one.

The new belt should run the same way as the old one. Just pull the alt back up tighten the bolts and tension your belt
