st205 3sgte - whats it worth?

Postby Skin » Sat Nov 24, 2007 8:25 pm

Just curious, what would people pay for an st205 engine and gearbox? The one i have bought might be too much hassle to put back on the road, so i may just part it out instead....

I know a lot of people would be keen to get their hands on that set up, but how much would you pay? Its done 99,000km

Cheers
Mark

Is it just engine and box? Or complete loom/ecu etc? Full conversion set should fetch at least $2k, perhaps closer to $3k. Id love to buy it, but ive bought far too much stuff and im broke :(

Yeah it would be full conversion, engine with everything attached(intercooler setup etc) and gearbox, with driveshaft and rear diff if need be.

I was thinking around the 3-3.5k mark, so thats good to know.

Ha, so....any takers? :)

But we know wreckers always charge more. Plus im guessing he wont want to have it sitting around for ages, which is why a lower price than a wrecker will move it quicker.

ST215 GT-T engines are available for $1800-2200, so a ST205 motor would fetch smilar money, a gearbox i would say $1000-1500

I've been in the dismantling game for coming up 7 years so have a pretty good grasp on what things are worth.

Hmmm, i would think an st205's engine would be more sought after to be honest, they are a lot rarer.

Ha, well thats a good starting point for me - if you have $3500 spare come see me, and ill flick you a mint conversion setup :D

I've bought two complete ST205's for similar money.
1. Red 94 for 3.5k with a motor that required work, but was still running, sortof.
2 Gray 97 that had a perfect running engine just a blown drivers air bag and needed compliancy for 4k.

Both werent exactly tidy externally, but I think the market has changed for the ST205. Its no longer a strong sellers market.

I wish you luck getting 3.5k for the engine only.

$1000 for gearbox is way too much. more $350-$500 for gearbox, $250 for transfer case and $250 for rear diff.

EVO and Subaru boxes are irrelevant, they munch them all the time.
I have paid for mine low kms ST205 gerabox/t.case/diff combo about $750 that is from japan, while I was quoted $1500 for BZR box at that time, so what it is is pretty irrelevant, more to do with demand and availability.

Exactly. ST205 stuff is bloody hard to get a hold of these days, and while the cars themselves have devalued substantially, my guess is the running gear wont.

Oh, i didnt get a chance to get the car back from thames this weekend, will try during the week. But dont worry about the weathershields sergei, they wont be going to anyone else

what u get as a deal has nothing to do with its worth, i got a decent E153 for $100, i dont go around saying there worth 100 bucks. getting one on demand for $100 would be a challange
