Toyota dealer stuff up

Postby Willdat? » Tue Dec 11, 2007 12:03 pm

After the good run my brother and I have had with our Toyota's I convinced my parents that the new Corolla wagon was worth a look as an around town run around. They took one for a drive and decided it was a good idea too.

Last Wednesday night they rang up, the dealer told them they only had a choice of X colours. By the time Thursday came around, and they went to pay the deposit they had only the choice of silver, but they confirmed the order anyway by paying $1000 deposit, with the balance to be paid when the car was delivered in 7-10 days.

With a new car on the way they lowered the reserve of their Lancer wagon on trademe (sold for $4600 on Sunday night)

Yesterday the salesman rang up and told my parents that they no longer were able to supply the Corolla until late January/early Feb, but that the demonstrator with 3000km was available at the same price...

Basically it's left my parents with just a Mazda Bounty work truck between them (obviously two seperate jobs) and the dealer is unwilling to offer any sort of compensation, or loan car. Is this usual Toyota policy?

Buy off another dealer then, there is more than one toyota dealer in NZ.

Does Revhead do good hookup's on whole cars?

Yeah, but deposit has been paid. I must admit that the service and parts department of this Toyota dealer (Bowaters in Nelson) has been great for anything that was too little to worry about getting from Warwick.

yeah i'll do a deal on a whole car
in kit set form

the big issue with new cars, and doubly so with popular ones like the corolla is TNZ get told what they are getting.
not we ask and we get.
its not uncommon for TNZ to order say 30 white corollas, the order is accepted.
then 3 weeks before they are due to arrive they will get told "sorry you only get 10"
due to the small size of the market, thats how it is.

so, what i think may have happened is the cars hadnt arrived at the dealer, but they had been told they would. then they either didnt get the ones they asked for, or didnt get as many.
or possibly when they checked with TNZ they had X amount, then found some one beat them to it

im sure if they went in and talked to them they would sort something out.
im 95% sure the issue wont be at dealership level.
though c0ckups do happen! :?

someone on the RX7 board in the US priced up close to an entire RX7 in parts, was around 200,000 US$ as lots of the interior bits and bobs were pricey, $300 for a console surround here, $900 for rear seats there...

not to mention the price of the turbo assembly and systems required to run them etc.

it all adds up really really quickly!

I think someone at a dealership/TNZ did once say the cost of a car as a kitset is in the vicinity of $500k
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

to be honest i see no reason why you couldn't get the deposit back as they are unable to supply it for another 2 months, where they originally said a couple of weeks. This of course doesn't solve your problem of having one vehicle.......

In terms of selling the old car, that was just bad luck unfortunately :(

Im no car salesperson but they should be able to do you a better deal on the demo model.

but yea, sorry to hear bud.
I had vtax :(

mum did that with the 2004 polo, ex demo, had done 50km, five zero, lol, and got several grand off it! so it's strange that they offered an ex demo for the same price as new :?

no its not
as its a brand new model, and still got plenty of kays left in it as a demonstrator
not one about to be replaced, or in line for replacement within another 3 or so years
and at 3000k its barely been warmed up.

somehow i think the sort of people buying corolla station wagons arent so inclined to that sort of behaviour.
i'd be more worried about how the people at the dealership treat it

Why not go somewhere else?

If you're buying a car in Nelson Im assuming you live there? You can even buy one in auckland and get it sent to Nelson for about $500...Not much to pay if it means you get the car in a week.

Theres a lot more choice in the bigger cities, cars already on the lot etc etc... Why not try that?

Maybe try the guys at Rutherford & Bond or King Toyota in Wellington...

Manawatu Toyota in Palmy

Jason at Hawkes Bay Toyota is a good guy to deal with (not sure if he's new or used cars)

Miles Toyota in ChCh

Greame or Richard @ Rotorua Toyota

And a massive list of toyota dealers in Auckland - Albany Toyota (Renee), North Shore Toyota(Paul), Giltrap City Toyota (Dave), North Western Toyota (Dave)...sh*t the list goes on and on...

you get the point, you even know who to ask for now :D
