yes exactly the same chassis
ae86 = 4a engine
ae85 = 3a engine

the difference is in the shocks and brakes

Its the only way you'll get big power from a 1600, you havent got that much capacity to play with.

And yeah, have a look at an AE8x and KE70 next to each other sometime....the underside is identical. Obviously the 86 has stronger driveline stuff, but its all pretty much interchangable.
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

IMO 220-230kw is about as high as you can go and retain a useful power band with the 1.6.
unless you're going to up the compression and get the works done all over and play with gear ratios etc

I was comming home today in my recently 4ag converted 85, pissing down with rain, with my gf in the car, open diff, and the thing got wild on me at 70 kmh.

Turbo would kill me.

Also is there a massive difference in valve size between the smallport and bigport heads?

Nah wrong way around dude, the turbo is in my AE92 GTZ.

My AE86 has a late model 4agze running 10psi, bit different to a 4age but still easy to handle. I think your problem with the ae85 is probably a mixture of diff ratio, bad wet weather tyres and the open diff (and possibly still standard suspension?).

Chuck some good road tyres on and and it'll make a world of difference :wink:

darkwolf: Im not sure what you mean about the psi being a bit high for a 1600? Capacity shouldn't make a difference, just the fact that it has strong internals and a good tune, it'll probably last forever..maybe :lol:

Lag's fine, get the ign timing right and highish compression and lag's not a problem. Its very easy to keep on boost even if your not change gears quickly. Around manfield it'll stay on boost out of corners no prob, if you're in the right gear.

As an example my new setup is actually better to drive than the old bigport + T28bb, and a crap load more torque 8)

Im running fairly good treads.

I think my car is well setup, and i have taken no short cuts to get it there.

I just couldnt imgaine how loose a turbo 86 would be.

Ive driven a fair few cars out on the open roads, turbo cefs, gt4's, turbo skylines (might as well have been another cef) etc and nothing feels as light as the trueno does.
It just floats across the ground as if the tarmac was water and the car was a jetski. Its a hell of a lot of fun.

Anyways enough of spamming this thread.

none of that is Chassis tho, its added equipment. same chassis, different mechanical, interior, suspension, breaking components. hence them all being interchangeable
