if the keep driving without a license its easier to do things like stick em in jail for a month etc.

as for a loud exhaust, its a major issue with the general public that focus's unwanted hate against our hobby.
take away that major gripe and a lot of the anti car enthusiast feelings go away... im all for it. they only wantto ban the arrogantly loud and offensive exhausts. i reckon even if your car was a little over the standards it wouldnt be a problem, untill you pull 6000rpm in first in the main street. in which case you deserve what you get

Fines don't matter to the hardcore wankers your right, but neither does losing their licence either.

At the end of the day this will ONLY affect people that abide by the laws 95% of the time, pay their odd fine on time.

It won't affect people that constantly break the law and don't worry about demerrits / fines. Good example being the repeat drink drive offenders out there, they get caught with no license and over the limt, demerrits will worry them i guess tho... yeah right.

Its only going to affect the "innocent" drivers that don't really cause that many problems, but they will be stung the most. I don't condone running red lights or speeding. But they way this new system will work is that you stuff up twice within (at a guess) 2 years and you lose your license. What a load of bullshit

I say innocent because compared to the people that go through red lights daily, speed all day long and don't pay fines etc..... they are what I would class as innocent.

Is there a proposal to ban speed detection and interference devices?

Errrr, anyone else notice that a speed detection device would be a radar gun like the police use? Since they use it to detect how fast we are going? Or even those signs on the side of the road that tell you how fast you're going.....

So, they're introducing a law to ban radar guns? Govt. self ownage....

I think that the law is a bit soft for drunk drivers to be quite honest. I think for alot of offences it's a bit soft.
I was just watching on the news about the 2 guys that assulted a 60 year old police officer and then stole his police car, wonder what they will get, community service and a smack on the hand probably. Stick them in Jail for 2 years no parole with a clause that states break the law in any way what so ever and back in jail and they might think twice before committing another crime.

and insted of just upping the demerits maby they could give the system a facelift??

did you know that you dont actuly get the demerits untill you pay the fine? my boss is trying to get around that atm by taking a speeding ticket through cort just to prolong the process b4 he has to pay it after some older points get wiped (a cop helpd tell him what he should do even) so this wont effect the people who dont pay fines any diferently anyway  (even tho its been sed a few times)

you dont get the demerits untill you pay, but the demerits are dated as per the offence.

The only thing he is doing is delaying losing it.

I have been trying to find statistics based on how many people got demetrits, to work out how many more people the new laws would take off the road. Cant find any at all funnily enough.

After all, the amount of drivers is related to the number of accidents, and I would hate to have the government say that "the new laws are working"
when all they did was lower the driving population.

what he is doing is delaying getting the latest lot of demerits actuly on his licence untill an old one times out or watever they do... because the demerits only count twords the licenc once the bill is actuly payed

Reread what Si and I just said.

Because the effective date of the demerit points is the day of your infringement - not the day you get paid - you will be deemed to have exceeded 100 and are still subject to suspension.

Not that I have ever owned a radar detector, but I just had a brainwave.

someone should come up with a navigation type device (navman etc) with a radar detector built in

Cops won't question a gps.

Actually this would just get GPS units baned too as the police couldn't tell the difference between the radar GPS units and the straight GPS units

i think it was actually true for a while, they fixed it somewhere along the way.

the way it is now they are saying is by paying the fine you are admitting guilt and therefore get the demerits backdated to when the infringment notice was issued.

I semi-agree with you... but once it becomes a warrant item, then it'll be the same as driving with bald tyres etc.

So you've read every study into it then?

Apart from the use of the word popo, which I'm guessing is some sort of slang for police car... I'm not completely against a hard limit of 120km/h on cars enforced at warrant time, and able to be checked roadside... although if I was a cop I'd be the type of prick to enforce everything on people that annoyed me.

It did used to work, but hasn't since atleast 2002... the last time I tried it.

Naturally, no. But I've read a lot of articles and arguments etc about radar detectors and their legality both here and oveseas. If such a study existed the proponents of banning them would be waving it in our faces. Study doesn't exist because it's not possible to carry out anything more scientific than a survey on the subject, which can only ever provide circumstantial evidence anyway.

Why 120 and not 100?

incase of the need for a buffer to get ones self out of a bad situation while passing for instance... sure, it shouldn't happen, but sometimes it does.

shouldn't need a buffer if you are over taking safely, seeing as this is all about being the safest driver possible and all..

Yeah but what happens when your on the open road following Mr awesome travelling at 80, get to the passing lane to over take and he speeds up to 100, your then stuck not being able to overtake. I think it would be a mistake to cap speeds like that in cars.

I still think that the law is not hard enough.
If they made it that you get 100 demerit points for speeding and you get 6 months jail time for example would that make you think twice before going over the speed limit?
I sure as hell wouldn't dare go over the speed limit 1km!

Speeding isn't the problem though. Poor driving ability on crap roads with no where to go if something goes wrong is.

Its so easy to get a drivers licence here its not actually funny. As long as you look left and right and can use an indicator on your test you get a licence :x I can't actually believe how people fail their licence tests.

All these extra reforms and Prodrive closes because of lack of funding
