walbro fuel pump issues

Postby bluemaumau » Wed Jan 09, 2008 9:24 am

got myself a 500hp jobbie and set about putting it in today.

issues!!!

the left is the walbro

the right a ae101 gtz pump, which was straight bolt in

Image

is it possible to take it somewhere and get the outlets at the top rotated 180 degrees?

if not what other solutions do i have? custom holding bracket? :?

also i have to change the plug, whats the best way to cut and join wires thatll be in a gas tank? solder ok?

cheers

There is a specific one that fits properly. Not sure how many variations there are but mine was fine. I bought it off TM and the seller specified which to use, pretty sure the username was Nicolab or Nicolb... something along those lines.

just change the mounting point, or get a hose clamp and clamp it to the bracket in the correct position, then use a bit of high pressure fuel hose to join it

well i guess the easiest thing is to cut the main feed line off(metal)

and get another one put on (welded)a little furthur back. then get the existing hole welded up.

bit of a pain but shouldnt cost to much, what sort of a shop would do that sort of work?

Had the same prob, there are two differant wahlbro part numbers with the only differance being outlet on opposite sides.

I ground the weld of the fuel tube and rewelded it inline with pump outlet, then welded a patch to seal it up. I found the fuel hose was on too much of an angle otherwise, didnt want to risk it kinking.

from memory twisting the pump to line them up closer, put the pickup in the way of the tank baffles, so relocating the outlet was my only option.

did you get the walbro kit or just the pump? the kit comes with some insulated crimp joiners, which is probably the best way to join them. i soldered the wires on mine the first time i did it but changed it later when i replaced the pump after my first one died.

crimp, some of the crimping joiners are heatshrink insulated, i have used these for my whole loom, its quick and easy and does a good job, you need a crimp tool tho and they cost about $50 bucks but well worth it.

Yeah, you have to be careful which ones you use in your fuel tank tho, the petrol attacks most plastics.

I'll see if I have some left over if you need them bluemaumau?

okay been around a few shops today and they all thought it was a bit of a mish.

is it okay to mount it on a angle, so long as the inlet(to the pump) is the lowest point?
