CCC Tarmac Autocross - Saturday 19th January - Ruapuna

Our second (and last before the ClubSport Nationals) Tarmac Autocross is on in under a month at Powerbuilt Raceway, Ruapuna. There were a few Toyspeed members at the last one (incl guys driving Toyotas and Hondas, eh Logan?) , and with a few NZHondas guys planning to show for the next one, might be worth coming out for a play?

I've updated the CCC website with info / regs / entry form for the January event on Saturday 19th.

Please check the info on the site and the attached regulations before asking any questions, the answer is hopefully there and I don't check this site as often.

However, if you do have any questions, post them here to help out others who might have the same ones I'll answer (or someone else who knows) as quick as I see it.

(keep in mind, if you want to score championship points, you need to be a CCC member before the event, although you can still enter and still place overall for the day without a membership)

Those who have questions about what you need etc.. check the regulations. Basically cars need to be schedule A, however if you have a current WOF and Rego, you pretty much are sorted.

Unlike Speed events, you *don't* require a Club membership or MSNZ Clubsport license to enter this particular event.

Your attire is important - your helmet must be MSNZ standard and your overalls must be 100% cotton or a racesuit - basically everything you need to know is in Schedule A - http://www.motorsport.org.nz/Pdf/M33%20App2%20SchA.pdf

If its your first event, well worth spending 30 minutes going through it. Its all there, and being a MSNZ event ignorance is no excuse - although you may be let off with minor things. ie not having the right markings for towing points will let you race for the day, but have to change it for next time.

The last one was a lot of fun and I have no doubt this one will be too. I know both myself and my lady will be bringing our Silvias out for a play. And I'm pretty sure Driftin(chris) is going to be there in his. This time I'm gunna go with the theory of more boost=more fun!!!

I finished 0.8 seconds behind a WRX in my little hatchback, so I have a goal or 2 this time around as well

Should be very interesting this time around with 3 - 4 runs at each course as opposed to just 2 like last time

This time I'll try not drift my FWD into the dipper (I still don't quite know how I managed to do that )

Spoke to Allan today, as long as time is our friend, we're definetly wanting 4 runs per course, 2 courses in total with best run of each counting towards total time.

The Celica proved more powerful than I had expected although the compound tyres constructed of both wax and plastic didnt do me any favours. Reminder to self, next time spend a few minutes and steal the tyres and rims from the race car. I gave up attempting to be fast and just played for the second half of the day. Using a heavy turbo car with a good dose of lag certainly changes lines.
I should have gone around and introduced myself but unfortunately played in my own corner with a Evo 5 owing friend. Some very nice AE86's, a V8 powered Supra, a hord of Silvias, a beautifully grumbly Nissan SR20DE, and some flotsum and jetsum made up the 20 odd cars of the day. Nick obviously decided that shocks werent needed for the day and removed them. The car rolling around like a drunken Kune Kune on stilts (still massively quicker than my plastic shod Celica).
Was a fantasically fun day that I couldnt recommend higher for those who are just starting out, or those who's race car project stretches on... and on... and just need to vent the pent up racing urge.

I think there are two solutions to the dirt issue. Have a car with a disgusting paint job with no less than 3 shades of red, an unpainted front bumper and large cracks through the 130kg of bog sitting in the body. You're distracted by the appearance and the dirt doesnt matter so much. Or, I personally find the black stuff slightly less dusty than the stuff constructed of dirt beyond said black stuff.

some very interesting lines taken in the celica, for a minute there i ould have sworn you thought you were still on gravel. Certainly looked like it turning around the last cone on the front straight. Very impressive.

My lines were appauling! As stated, after setting a lap record for the slowest times in any car over 30hp I decided enough was enough and just picked up the Celica and threw it at everything. There was a point where I blatantly overcooked the tyres on the first corner of the double lapper, then found on the next corner that the car drifted substancially more than I expected. Ripple strips saved yet another dent in the old girl, not that I could have cared.
There was a good outcome from the event. I went out expecting to blow up an engine. With a tank of gas over a year old and detonation ringing louder than a chruch bell I had expected to snap the little 3SGTE in half. For some typically Toyota reason the engine fixed itself and ran considerably better during the event and on the way home.

I've got to get the bloody rally car wired and back together! Would have been a fantastic day to test. Good bit of fun with nothing too serious.

Was it you Crispy that had the big dirt rooster tail on the final 180 degree corner entering the main straight?

Was a great day!! Had a heap of fun!!

My trusty SR never missed a beat though I forgot to wind the boost up so only ran 1bar for the day. Now just gotta get the batt sorted and I'll be set for the next sealed one.

I saw a red gt4 gettin very sideways on the autocross track down by the pits entering the second corner I'm guessing that was you Redmist?? Never seen a gt4 so sideways before

Didn't do too bad though finished higher than last time in the motorkhana now just gotta practice my handbrake turns!!

I'd had just about enough of the plastic tyres. I sware I've had considerably more traction on dirt with rally tyres.
Next time I might even take the spare out of the boot, or swap the tyres out, or run more than stock boost. Orrrr.... I could just get of my fat lazy arse and get the rally GT4 back together again.
