*****4agte problem wont runn properly*****

Postby corolla gt » Tue Jan 29, 2008 10:09 pm

i have left a bit of questions on toyspeed about my 4agze big port with td05 on it and motor has been rebuilt.

i have got a problem now that i cant solve.i have been told by a shop that my motor isnt running on4 cylinders and it is pumping out alot ov smoke out of the exhaust

i have put 2much oil in the motor for starters and now i thnik the oil has gone into the exhaust and thats why it is pumping out smoke...i have had 2 put new turbo on as the last 1 was blowin and oil was pissing out ov the inlet of turbo

i am starting to get oil come out of the turbo again but it is behind the perpaler and not seeping out like the last 1.

cant find out why it is runnig on 3 cylinders and have since done a compression test on it.it was about 160 to 165 on all the 4 cyclinders on a dead cold motor (is that even a good number?) i cant runn it in warm as i dnt want to blow motor up because not shore it is running properly its a fresh rebuilt motor

any ideas what i should do or is anyone local in wellington that could check as i dont have a clue and am not keen to blow any more stuff up on my motor and it is begining to cost me alot of cash

I can ramble on about what to check but too many varables and if you're not checking things properly you will be walking around in circles, I see it all the time.

tow it to a Workshop pay the $$$ and get an expert opinion would be my advice to you, it will save you sh*tloads of stress!!!!

So have you drained the oil and refilled to the correct amount?

Have you checked the spark plugs aren't fouled by carbon causing it to run on 3? Probably best to fit some new ones to see if thats the problem.

Is the ign timing correct?

Was the link set up to run a 4age base map? or did you buy it second hand and may be setup for another engine configuration?

If its 165psi across all 4 that sounds fine. I've had 150psi on a used 8:1 4agze no probs and no smoke.

Is the "new" turbo actually new? Cheap knock off? If 2nd hand does it have any shaft play?

Since it was rebuilt, has it been run in at all? Was it turned over every now and then while in storage?

i am goin 2 drain the oil and put the rite amount in now .i have drainwed a bit out ae so i hope it sweet.

yea i checked the spark plugs and they are sweet i had 2 put new 1s in becuase the other 1s fouled up hard

i think the timing is sweet because we had it runnnig and moved the cas so it sounded the best

i had 2 send the link away and get the 4age base map put on it as it was rx7 standard...so thts sussed

turbo is 2nd hand and has no shaft play the turbo i had on b4 had quiet a bit ov play and started pissing oil out rapidly out ov inlet this turbo is starting 2 get a bit o oil behind perpaller

i still think there is oil in the exhuast dump pipe as there is oil trying 2 seep out the backing dump and exhaust housing ..was thinknig take the dump off clean it out and then get my hole exhaust off put petrol in it and burn all the arbon out ov it

motor was fresh rebuilt off baz it had been in storgae for a while though so hope its all gud and no it hasnt been runnnig long

the smoke is sorta grey not blue so i think it myte b runnnig really rich

does that help

What size oil feed are you using on the turbo? If it's too big, it'll explain why you're blowing oil through the turbo seals.

As for not running on 4 cylinders, could be due to the above reason also. You've possibly pumped oil into your intake and the plugs have fouled.

Take it to someone that knows what they're doing. You are risking what seems to be a perfectly good engine. In the end it'll probably be cheaper to get someone to finish it off for you. (and a whole lot less hassle)
