Best bang for buck Alarm

i want to get an alarm for my st205

in people opinion what is the best alarm

Tying not to spend more than 600-700 on the alarm

I lean towards the AVS S5 these days, but for that budget any 5 star alarm installed well will see you right.

With most security, installation will matter more than the actual product

hmm ok thanks. also another question i have.

I some of the new porsches they have this unit in them which sits up by the mirror which has like 3 buttons on it. these units can learn a signal and tie it to a button

ASo you can teach it your garage door and house alarm etc. they developed this because the glass in thier cars tends to interear witht he signal.


does anyone know of an aftermarket unit which does this

It would look cooler than just having a remote lying around

I have no experience with AVS, but im going off Dynatron. Dont know if its the installs, but both mine (7800 and 3800) arent that great. Could be the dust affecting it as well.

Need to get the MR2 redone someday.

yea im getting a dynatron 7800 with a microwave sensor, anti jack sensor interior screemer and getting my turbo timer installed all for $850

DONT DO IT!!!!!

I put that plus the GPS into my evo, and I had nothing but crap with it!
I took it back to dynatron HQ in albany 4 times, and it still wouldnt work right.
In the end, the dynatron guy said that it was the turbo timer thats built into the units...they end up buggering the whole system!

Have had both the 3800 & 7800 installed in to vehicles, never had an issue with either.

3800 is in Corona which has long gone.

7800 in KE25, with a few bits added on.

Alarms are all about the install, get someone who doesnt know what they are doing & you will forever have issues, get someone who knows what they are doing & it will be fine.

But I do still question the Dynatrons...as I had the entire unit (the little black box) totally replaced two times by the head guy at Dynatron and I still had issues.

its quite likly they got a bad bunch of units. it happens some times.

Agree with that, sometimes you just have a run of bad luck, happens from time to time.

I personally have a very similar setup to you NZVengeance & am very happy with it.

Added bonus being you can "add-on" moduels later i.e. Paging Option etc

Anyone had a Mongoose M80G ? Thoughts?
I'm also looking at an alarm for my new ride. Narrowed it down to the M80G, AVS S5 & Dynatron 7800. All seem to do very similar things. Although the S5 & M80G have triple immobilisers where as the 7800 only has twin but has transponder remotes where as the others dont.

Also do insurance companys prefer one brand over another or just as long as its 5 star etc.

I had a M80G on my old falcon, no complaints, had sensitivity issues on teh glass break sensor to start with but that was an easy fix. From then on had no issues with it.

As for insurance companies I was with NAC and got no love in terms of reduced premium or excess. I don't no about others experiences with NAC or other companies.
