20v stalling + engine light

Postby RickGT » Tue Feb 05, 2008 7:19 pm

car is a ae101 levin, motor runs perfect except sometimes it just stalls and is hard to start, dont think it is fuel as you can smell it when you try to start it, hooked up a timing light an started it an light was cuttin out at same time engine was splutering, so i think it is the coil and or ignitor, anyone else had this problem?
thanks

plugs and/or coil?

just had a weird problem in a mates ae101, ran for a couple of minutes then just died and wouldnt start for another 5-10 mins each time, diagnosed the shit out of it (had no spark) and ended up using the secondary wires off the link ignitor to the coil, cleaned the plugs and voila!

have you gone through the basics, eg checked spark and fuel flow?

(failing that, i've got a spare ignitor and coil you could borrow if need be)

yea tried to put in diag mode but check lt never flashed, i dont think it is the plugs because i had the timing light on the lead from the coil and it was missing, would it be more likely the coil or the ignitor?

may be but just for shits and giggles, check the earthing. problem is im sure the engine check light shouldn't come on if its just a coil or ignitor gone wrong.

you sure its not a miss-fire?
