Want to feel better about the new fines system?

Postby diss7 » Sat Feb 09, 2008 8:49 pm

Check out the idiotic amounts they charge for fines in Australia.

Got these in the mail this morning from a recent trip to Brisbane. I knew I was getting both, but I thought they'd be around the $300 mark, not $2k!

Yeah I was in Melbourne in December and a couple of weeks ago got a speed camera ticket, no where near as high as them, it was $150 for 106km in a 100 zone - those certainly make me feel better about mine :)

You can, you either just have to A) carry a bigger gun
or B) be insane

But yeah that 1st ones a bit nasty! Though probally quite reasonable for the damage going through a red can cause

i had heard that oz speed limits in most places are 10km higher, but theres zero tolerance for exceeding that limit.

who the hell has 750$ lying around for what might be a momentary lapse in concentration :? bit rough i think.

they should start low for first offence and then increase dramatically for repeat offenders.

$150 for 6km over is harsh, I thought it was supposed to be $30?
I know I got $30 for doing 55 in a 50

Does it have anything to do with the fact you were in a company car? (i guess by the fines). Does that make it higher?

Yea I sent these to a friend and he said the same thing. Since theres no demerits the might charge more for the offense. If thats the case I would rather it this way!

No one here thinks that top one is deserved?
A lot of money, but running red lights can kill people.
Seems damn near every intersection over there has a camera on it too.

$750 for 18km/h over is a bit scary though

i would admit to going through the occasional red light in the early hours of the morning when theres no-one else on the roads, and you can see any oncoming traffic from miles off - which is what it looks like in that top pic.

still illegal though ;)

That's one mean deterrent to running reds.

Should have a fine like that over here.

As above has said its such a high fine because its a company car, not an individual. The fine is large because there is no loss of points.
If you nominate a driver the fine will drop alot but you loose points on your licence.

At that time of night everyone has the time to wait  Especially people who don't want to have an accident, cop a large fine, or get demerit points ;)
