Gear changes in Auto/Tiptronic

Post by bubz »

Can someone please explain how does automatic/tipronic gear changes work?Would like to know what actually happens inside the gear box.

The reason for knowing this is something that I have noticed in my car during gear changes in tiptronic mode.Once I make my gear selection,it is delayed by a couple of seconds before the actual change happens. Is this normal or should the change be instant?

Is the gear box giving up?What would be the signs for an Auto gear box failure.Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

All to do with ring gears, planet gears and sun gears.
Something so damn simple, yet so complex to work on.

No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

The delay is normal, I hate driving them in manual mode. If it's slipping after the change thats not normal though.

Dad's tiptronic caldina is much better to drive in manual mode (and all in auto) with the overdrive off.

Bit confused here but this delay is more noticeable under boost. At 14psi it's minimal and under 18psi it's quiet noticeable. If I'm not boosting than there's no delay. The car has been upgraded as well.
