What OS do you run?

Postby sergei » Thu Feb 28, 2008 11:38 am

This a response to the tread on MS sued again http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=64588
Just want to know what ratio of people run other than Windows on their machine (also it is very interesting to know what kind of Windows they run).
If you dual/tripple/multiple boot, choose the OS that is more important for you (for example I dual boot too, but use XP very occasionally (once a month) for gaming purposes, so my OS of choice is Linux, even my car runs Linux ;)).
Linux only got one choice because there are too many flavours which are not much different (unlike difference between XP and Vista). So is BSD.

EDIT: for some reason I had OTHERS section but it does not show, so please put down what you use if you use something else that is not on the list.

There' some of use who use a combination of OS, depending of course on what you are doing at the time.

I use Win2K3/WinXP/Ubuntu at home, just switch everytime I need to do something different.

XP does pretty much everything for me. Got a 2k3 server for dns/dhcp/backup etc.
Could have used linux for my server but couldn't be bothered downloading it.

OSX 99% of the time unless I have the misfortune to have to use my old PC for something like scanning transparencies and negatives for the web. God I wish I could afford a decent Nikon scanner.

HL2 works on Ubuntu no problem. So should TF2. Crysis most likely will not...

Voted vista, although i might add i am currently running xp because vista kept crashing a particular game i am currently playing that was released in 1996 or something...

Apart from that i have found vista good value... if you get past the fact that some things have been moved it a good os.

^^^ This is not a battle to see who uses the most different flavours of OS.

Question is simple: What do you use as your desktop or on your own machine, anyone here that works in IT can list 100s of different machines and OS flavours they work on which is complete irrelevant.
