sc12 to sc14 swap

Postby .:O4AGTZ:. » Thu Feb 28, 2008 10:16 pm

iv had my ae101 gtz for a little while now and am startin to think about doin a bit more to it. currently its got a 14psi pulley and a full exhaust...that is pretty much it. something that has interested me is swapping the sc12 for an sc14. is this worth the hassle? expensive swap? worth the power increase? and would it need an aftermarket ecu? there are a few other things i want to do as well such as bluetop or maybe aftermarket cams and maybe fmic. but wot im really interested in rite now is some info on the supercharger swap. havent really seen it done that much, and successfully at tht

Take a look here http://www.members.westnet.com.au/adsport/sc14fit/

step by step run down of swapping a SC12 over to a SC14 on an AW11 ZE, will give you an idea for what you are in for.

The SC14 swap isnt really expensive if you do it all yourself, Barry (Bazda) has done it for a couple of people on here if i remember correctly.

Bluetop CAMS, havent seen any documented evidence that they make much of a difference, other than from the seat of the pants dyno i.e. word of mouth.

SC14 WILL run fine on a stock ECU, I have confimed this with Mr Revhead, as this was a swap I was looking in to myself.

If you go aftermarket CAMS then depending on what you get you may need to go to an aftermarket ECU obviously.

what condition is the engine in at the moment? whats the service history been like? have you had to pur truck loads of $$'s in to it to get it to run fine?

These are the sorts of questions I would be asking myself to get a feeling for the rebuild or not

i.e. if its blowing truck loads of smoke then changes are it will need new rings, which if you are doing that then you may as well freshen up bearings / gaskets etc etc while you are doing it.

If the engine is fine & has been for sometime then I dont see any real reason to pull it aprt just for the sake of pulling it apart

as a daily driver if you are going to go through with it, then I would make sure everything was there erady to go & double check again, you kow what its like starting a job only to find something isnt quite right which extends time out
