People put rotors in them? Should put a 2T-G and sidedrafts on instead.

shame it's a 4-door, but i guess most of the 2-door shells have either been turned into classic race/rally or speedway production saloons.

KSC on trade me is selling the engine from the 2.1 litre rallly car we built a few years back. if you wanted wake this car up, then all the bits are there.

Nah not really, Escort's love to rot in the sills, around the screen/base of A pillars, and inner guards and strut tops (multiple skins of doom).

yea my comment was a jest hence the  on the end. but

in my experience escorts have rust issues and tend not to be reliable .

Rust isn't a problem as long as the vehicle is stored properly. Our old Escort rally car was bought by dad as a road car in 1976, kept in a garage all its life the only spot of rust was a small bubble behind one rear wheel arch after the paint was chipped and it wasn't treated properly.

I love the Mk1s but ended up buying my Corolla for rallying just because of parts availability and reliability/ease of maintenance. For my application having a modern car running bog-standard parts was more appealing to me (a mechanical noob) than having a 40 year old car with old technology being pushed to the limit to match the modern machinery. For a stylish roadie YMMV. (and if I had unlimited money for a competition car I'd probably buy a Mk1 BDA for Targa work - can't beat the style of them!)

Moneywise it isn't cheap to buy a good one - I got $3500 for mine when I sold it and that was without advertising it. Good ones get snapped up for up to $5000+ and sent back to the UK where they are rebuilt into classic rally cars.
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

I race one In Oz in targa ( Mk2 rs2000 chisel nose )

they are easy to maintain , cheapish fun , and always have people recognnise and poin them out , even next to exotic supercars

they are heaps fun , and seem to be a cheaper oldschool option than most jap cars of the same era which is odd ..

personally if it was my choice od get a Ke corolla and 2tg it , but if escort is my only option id still be happy with it and id be on the phone to Oz to get all the good bits to make them 2 litres easuy and on the cheap ( or the UK for the REAL good stuff !! )

It's amazing that people on a Toyota forum are accusing the Escort of being rust prone.
I owned over a dozen Mk1's throughout the 70's as both road and rally cars. Never had a patch of rust in any of them.

Ironically it was the Toyotas that were renowned for rusting with the Corona being labelled "Coroda" and the Corolla being no better.

I recall my wife had a KE70 S/W which was quite near new and had rust patches on the roof the size of tennis balls.
It was only after multitudes of similar failings to cars still within their warranty periods that Toyota improved it's rust prevention programme.

Did you ever get any MK2's? I bought one that had rusted right through the sill, from the rear wheel arch (which had also rotted through to the rear quarter ) to just behind the front door. I've seen several MK2's do the same.
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!
